Liverpool have chosen their Yan Diomande alternative forward
Liverpool are bang in the mix to sign Yan Diomande.
The Ivorian, 19, is currently starring for his national team at the ongoing FIFA World Cup. And the winger emerged on Liverpool’s radar a few months into his breakout campaign with RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga.
Diomande joined the Red Bull-owned outfit from Leganes in summer 2025 - inking a deal until 2030. It hasn’t taken him long to prove his talents belong at a higher level - with the Reds registering their interest alongside Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.
RB Leipzig want £112m for Diomande
A deal for Diomande won’t come cheap with Leipzig said to be holding out for around £112m (€130m) for his signature. There are no guarantees they will be minded to sell this summer - given the control they exert over Diomande’s contract.
The interest expressed by PSG is certainly concerning given the platform they have been able to provide for wingers in recent Champions League title wins.
And Real Madrid will hold an attraction for any young player - with Los Blancos entering the race in recent weeks.
Real Madrid and PSG also in the mix
Putting all of their hopes on signing Diomande would therefore be an unwise move for the Reds. Sporting director Richard Hughes does have an alternative in mind however - in the shape of Norway star Antonio Nusa.
Indeed the 20-year-old is a Leipzig teammate of Diomande - albeit he is living in the young African star’s shadow right now.
But a report in Football Insider nonetheless claims that the former Club Brugge starlet is on the radar for the Reds in case a deal for Diomande cannot be pulled off.
Liverpool want deal for Antonio Nusa
“Liverpool also admire Leipzig's Nusa and will look to land him if a move for his teammate fails,” the report reads.
“21-year-old Nusa notched five goals and four assists in 35 appearances for the German club last season.”
Nusa joined the Red Bull club back in 2024 from Brugge for around £20m. He is under contract until 2029 and would come significantly cheaper than his club-mate Diomande.
Unlike Diomande - who plays either left or right wing - Norwegian Nusa plays exclusively on the left.
