World-class star is coming to Liverpool

World-class is a loose definition these days but Richard Hughes definitely signed a couple of them this summer.

In a transfer window where Liverpool's sporting director broke the club's record fee paid for a player twice, you'd have to admit that he did.

Few players can rival the talent of Alexander Isak or Florian Wirtz in world football at the moment. The former is one of the best strikers in the world, and the latter is one of the best attacking midfielders in the world.

Therefore they are both world-class.

The fact that they also both player for Liverpool is something that is going to take a while for everyone to sink in.

There's something special that is being built at Anfield right now and Wirtz and Isak are going to be the founding blocks of Hughes' new dynasty.

We've barely even seen glimpses of Isak in a Liverpool shirt, let alone on the pitch. Wirtz has had more time to settle in but he's still not showing his best quality.

Coming from the Bundesliga, being a German player there as well, means he was a little coddled in the league. He now needs to adjust but his got the mentality and the quality to be able to overcome his difficult start.

Florian Wirtz's difficult start

Even in this 'difficult' start, Wirtz has played more than his part in Liverpool's success. His off the ball movement and intelligence has been key for allowing Hugo Ekitike to flourish.

Wirtz often diverts the defenders' attention with his clever runs into dangerous territories and that opens up gaps and spaces for Ekitike to roam into.

When Isak comes into the side, the same will happen for him. Although in return, as Ekitike will do as well, they will also open up spaces for Wirtz to capitalise his qualities from.

The fact of the matter is that Wirtz is world-class. He confirmed that with his performance for Germany against Northern Ireland.

Wirtz was phenomenal on the night, fighting back against a lot of criticism he received from the German press and social media after their defeat to Slovakia.

That was a disappointing result. But football can produce that at times. It's how you bounce back that matters. Wirtz did it perfectly by producing a Man of the Match display.

His stunning free-kick goal against Northern Ireland will grab most of the headlines but he also created the most chances (3), won the most recoveries (8) and was the most fouled player (4) on the pitch on the night.

This was a world-class performance. The kind of performance very few can produce for their country at just 22-years-old.

Now, Liverpool's world-class talent is on his way back to Liverpool to resume training with the first team on Thursday.

In the meantime, Wirtz will have a bit of time make himself feel more at home in Liverpool. He's had a whirlwind few months, moving homes, going on tour and then getting stuck into it in the Premier League.

It's a massive bonus that his international duty has ended so early and he can just be back at Liverpool, making himself feel more comfortable and getting ready for Burnley.
