Winger confirms he's ready to join Liverpool in stunning moment
Liverpool need a winger and one player confirmed he's ready to join the Reds.
The truth of the matter is that while Richard Hughes brought in a lot of exciting players in the summer window, the club's rebuilding process has only just begun and it's far from finished.
Liverpool's imbalance can be explained by the imbalance in the squad itself. If we take a look at Jurgen Klopp's peak Liverpool, the best thing about it that made everyone click was the balance of the team.
It was put together perfectly. There was just the right combination of strength, speed and technique. Right now, Liverpool probably have a lot of technical players, some players with intensity and a strong work rate but they are lacking that speed which the likes of Sadio Mane and a much younger Mo Salah brought into the side.
The club's recruitment team's next task is to find those Mane and Salah heirs. Arne Slot has been speaking about the necessity to add speed to his squad and there is one very obvious choice.
You simply cannot look past Yan Diomande at the moment. He's everything Liverpool want in a winger and he's everything they are lacking at the moment.
The 19-year-old's latest showing against Bayern Munich confirmed that. His side may have been utterly annihilated, losing 5-1 but Diomande showed he was ready for the next step by being one of the best players on the pitch.
The Ivorian created the most chances (3) for RB Leipzig, and was a constant threat down the right-wing.
One of the stunning moments of the game which confirmed he was ready and perfect for Liverpool was when Diomande received the ball outside the penalty area and was surrounded by four Bayern defenders.
He waltzed past all of them and then squared the ball across to Antonio Nusa for a tap-in but the Norwegian attacker remarkably missed.
You can see the moment at 0:16 of this YouTube video here.
What was even more encouraging from Diomande is the work-rate. In any Liverpool team you need the attacker to track back and defend from the front.
Diomande did exactly that making eight recoveries for RB Leipzig in the match.
He's got speed, he's got quick feet, he works in tight spaces and his directness can create goal-scoring chances.
How many times have Liverpool been in the same situation as that Diomande clip and the players they had just couldn't find a way through.
Against low-blocks in particular you need someone capable of conjuring a moment of magic, a stunning piece of skill and change of direction that unlocks those resolute defences.
Diomande does this every game for club and country. He's a sensational player at being able to do this, too.
It's why he's ready to join Liverpool and it's why Richard Hughes has to bring him to Anfield.
