What must happen for Liverpool to sign Micky van de Ven this summer
Liverpool chose against adding any new players to their ranks during the winter transfer window.
This came as quite a surprise to most of the Reds' fans, especially with the number of defensive injuries that they've suffered in the last month or so.
Arne Slot's defence has been one of the main reasons why the Anfield outfit have failed to perform to the level expected of them in the Premier League.
Indeed, the Champions League and FA Cup are still up for grabs but, if they drop out of either or both of those competitions, Liverpool's transfer strategy in the winter window is likely to be questioned.
Although their lack of activity could hinder them this term, that hasn't stopped rumours about the upcoming summer transfer window from being shared.
Ibrahima Konate must exit Anfield if Liverpool are going to sign an experienced centre-back
The future of Ibrahima Konate has hung heavy over the heads of all those involved with Liverpool.
Ever since Trent Alexander-Arnold chose to exit his boyhood club for Real Madrid, fans have begged their club to extend Konate's contract so that he can't exit for free in the summer.
Some may want to see the back of the Frenchman and, after this new update from TEAMtalk, there could be more fans wanting him gone than those who want him to stay.
And, that's because the report outlines that the only way Liverpool will sign an experienced centre-back in the summer is if they lose Konate.
Indeed, Jeremy Jacquet has already been brought in but he's seen as more of a 'long-term' option than an instant fix.
TEAMtalk share that sources close to Liverpool are 'adamant' that the Reds would 'immediately' enter the market if Konate chooses to exit.
And, now that both Marc Guehi and Dayot Upamecano have made their decisions, Real Madrid's list of free-agent centre-backs is getting thinner, hence why a deal for Konate has re-entered the picture.
Micky van de Ven is still on Liverpool's radar
Micky van de Ven is an exceptional centre-back with the Dutchman among Tottenham's best players at the moment.
Although the 24 year old's natural position is at the heart of a defence, he has been known to play as a left-back or even as a defensive midfielder.
And, since it doesn't feel all that likely for Tottenham to win the Champions League or Premier League any time soon, it's hardly surprising to see reports linking Van de Ven with a move away.
The same report from TEAMtalk outlines that the Dutchman is on Liverpool's 'radar' with the defender among the players that Liverpool would 'seriously consider' signing if Konate chose to exit Anfield.
This would be an exceptional transfer for Liverpool and, with Virgil van Dijk set to be a Liverpool player for at least another year, he could help his fellow countryman become his successor.
His transfer would certainly cost a hefty chunk of change, but, with how good he's bene for Spurs over the last couple of years, Van de Ven would be worth every penny.
