Liverpool can now sign the Trent Alexander-Arnold regen who has arrived on the scene.

Last summer Richard Hughes knew he had a problem. A big, gigantic gaping abyss of a problem. There was simply no one on planet earth who could do what Alexander-Arnold could do.

Liverpool's former no.66 is one of the most unique and special players in the world. He's simply generational. Very few in world football have the vision and the technique that Alexander-Arnold has.

Hughes at the time decided he wasn't even going to bother trying to find anyone even remotely similar. He was right to. There is no point looking for a needle in a haystack when that needle doesn't even exist. It would have been futile.

Instead, Hughes went with something radically different. He opted to sign Jeremie Frimpong, who brought more speed and more directness giving Liverpool in theory a completely different dynamic on the right flank.

Frimpong has done well in a Liverpool shirt, when fit, however, ultimately not replacing Alexander-Arnold's ability in the build-up has also cost the Reds.

They are now lacking when it comes to build-up play. Liverpool are struggling to find gaps, make those long switches and outplay their opponents.

Slot's side are keeping the ball, but it's dithering. There is no purpose, nor much useful phases of play.

Alexander-Arnold was imperative in these passages of play during his time at Liverpool. He could also unlock defences with his genius deliveries and line-breaking passes.

Without him, Liverpool's attack has become blunter.

It's becoming clear that Liverpool are going to have to enter the market to find a replacement solve their problems.

Adam Wharton is a player who has been touted as the solution. But there may be an even better long-term option for half the price who literally looks like a Trent regen.

17-year-old Nathan De Cat is a player you're going to be hearing about a lot more often in the coming years.

Why? It's simple.

He has the kind of technical elegance that is akin to Alexander-Arnold. Blessed with long legs and an athletic physique, it's eye-catching when you watch him play.

With the low socks, there is an element of Alexander-Arnold in his ability on the ball. He's got a very similar technique in his ability to be able to disguise passes and hit long-range bullets.

Like Alexander-Arnold, he is sublime at switching play and going long over the top of the opposition's defence.

De Cat's vision and ability to stay calm and composed under pressure is what makes him the ideal replacement for Alexander-Arnold.

He isn't a right-back, but he is good at dropping deep and finding the passes that Alexander-Arnold would have found.

Don't believe us? Well, believe the numbers. Out of midfielders who have averaged 5 long balls per 90 minutes in the Jupiler Pro League, De Cat has the best pass completion rate (62%).

He doesn't just see those passes and attempt them, he executes them at a high rate.

His trademark long passes are one of the most difficult pass in football. That's why coaches generally prefer to play it short. It's a Hail Mary every single time when you go long.

Sometimes, when you have nothing else to resort to, it's worth a punt.

But when you have a player who you can rely on to pull it off, you basically find a cheat-code.

That's what Alexander-Arnold was for Liverpool. That's what De Cat could become, too. And it's why his incredible talent makes him the perfect regen and the perfect heir to the former no.66 at Anfield.

Incredibly, De Cat has six goal contributions (two goals and four assists) in his last five games, which shows just how special of a player he is but it's also a reminder Liverpool need to act fast to secure his services.

In our opinion, this is a move that is simply going to happen. Hughes and the club's recruitment team are smart enough to see what is so obvious to everyone.
