One player looks guaranteed to join Liverpool after his move has already been agreed.

It's been a whirlwind transfer window for the Reds that went down to the wire. Ultimately Marc Guehi's collapsed transfer to Anfield means the window ended in disappointment.

But if one deal was to fall through, Liverpool would probably have chosen this Guehi deal, considering the circumstances.

For one, the Reds are well stocked in the centre-back department. They have plenty of players who can cover both the left and right-sided centre-back position.

From new signing Giovanni Leoni to the club's most senior options like Joe Gomez, Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk.

Not to mention Wataru Endo has proven last season he can also cover the position.

So, Arne Slot essentially has five options. That is plenty of cover to get him through until the January window. By which point Liverpool may have plenty of other players on their radar.

Now at this point it doesn't feel like it's guaranteed Liverpool will return for Guehi in six months time. That length of time is an awful long period in football and so much can change.

Liverpool don't just have tunnel vision either. They are still looking at other options on the market even after a spectacular summer window.

Morgan Rogers for example could be an option for the Reds, especially aftert they negotiated a clever loan deal with an obligation to buy for Harvey Elliott.

They are also going to be looking at the long-term implications of Mohamed Salah's potential departure in one or two seasons - when his contract expires.

For that the club has the likes of Michael Olise and Yankuba Minteh on their radar. Whether they are going to make a move for either of the two in January remains to be seen.

Liverpool were not very active in the January transfer window last season. Although there were movements behind the scenes with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia being eyed up and Darwin Nunez receiving interest from Saudi Arabia.

Ultimately, it remains to be seen what Liverpool's plans are but one thing is very clear. Ultimately, Guehi is going to become a Liverpool player.

Journalist believes Marc Guehi will join Liverpool

Currently valued at €42.5m by Football Transfers Richard Hughes has agreed a £35m fee for Guehi with Palace on deadline day. It looked like the move was going to happen.

Then out of nowhere, Palace pulled the plug after they failed to get replacements in for the England star.

But while that was disappointing for Liverpool, the Reds have not given up on their pursuit.

According to Daily Mail journalist, Lewis Steele, speaking to Anfield Index, Guehi will become a Liverpool player sooner or later.

"Yes, I would be very surprised if they didn't end up signing him. The only question mark is whether that is in January or whether they wait until next summer," Steele said.

"I think Liverpool will maybe take stock of their options when the January window opens but there are different clubs in for him as well. But I just think the fact that he had agreed a move to Liverpool, I think it would be quite bad on Liverpool's part if they didn't eventually sign him because for all intense and purposes Marc Guehi was a Liverpool player on Monday afternoon.

"He's agreed to that move. They put the money on the table. So I think that will end-up happening and maybe they'll end up doing it for a lot less money."

So by all accounts it's just a waiting game for Liverpool. Sooner or later, Guehi will be in Slot's first team.

All that remains to be seen is whether the Reds get him on the cheap later this season, or whether they get him on a free next summer.

That will depend on how the season goes and where Liverpool stand in terms of injuries come January.
