Speed was high on Arne Slot’s agenda as the Reds embarked on the summer transfer window.

Despite lifting the Premier League title, Liverpool were often found wanting in that department last season.

Ultimately, it culminated in their shortcomings in Europe. In the Champions League, in their quarter-final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, the French club’s attacking trident of Ousmane Dembele, Nuno Mendes and Achraf Hakimi completely outran Liverpool.

Across Europe’s elite clubs, acceleration and dynamism have become essential ingredients. The game is faster, more transitional, and more open than ever. And Liverpool, once at the forefront of that style under Jurgen Klopp, had started to look a step slower over the course of the last few seasons.

The great Klopp team with Sadio Mane in full flight, and a younger, sharper Mohamed Salah was successful precisely because of their speed.

Salah remains a key figure, but he has evolved his game. He’s more often the orchestrator, dropping deeper, picking passes, and creating space for others rather than being the explosive goal-scoring winger he once was.

It was always going to happen as he got older, but it has left Liverpool lacking direct pace around him.

Richard Hughes recognised this. The club's summer recruitment has clearly focused on restoring Liverpool’s lost speed. Not just in the wide areas, but across the pitch.

In Hugo Ekitike, Liverpool have brought in one of the fastest strikers in the Bundesliga last season. His speed in attack is going to elevate Liverpool.

At left-back, Milos Kerkez is full of energy and explosiveness as well. Alexander Isak is quite a speedy player, too. He can hurt defences by running in behind them, and using his power and pace to cause mayhem.

But the fastest player of them all is Jeremie Frimpong. Liverpool signed him in the summer for just £29m and that may prove to be a bargain.

Frimpong has shown that he's dangerous when it comes to bombing forward. In the games he has played in competitive action and in pre-season, he's looked like a lively threat.

Someone who is also more than capable of tracking back, making recovery runs and using his speed not just to attack but to defend, too.

It's why he has become a popular figure among the club's supporters and in the dressing room as well. His teammates know they can rely on him at both ends of the pitch.

And according to one player in Frimpong, Liverpool do not just have a new fastest player at the club but in the world.

Ekitike says Frimpong is the fastest player in the world

In a recent viral video on social media with EA FC Mobile, Ekitike was spotted waxing lyrical about Frimpong alongside his Reds teammates, Milos Kerkez and Giorgi Mamardashvili

When they were asked who the fastest player was at the club, Ekitike replied: 'Jeremie everyday.'

Kerkez added: 'Too fast! Too quick!'

Ekitike confirmed this by replying: 'I think he's the fastest in the world.'

To which Kerkez agreed: 'Yeah, I swear.'

Slot’s football thrives on rapid transitions, sudden surges, and the terror of the unexpected. Frimpong offers that direct speed and unpredictability he lacked.

Bringing in the fastest player in Europe capable of maintaining his top-speed and sprints with the most frequency in matches is going to a huge weapon.

The kind of weapon Slot needed in his team. Someone who will be able to help Liverpool overcome what they lacked against PSG.

Frimpong has shown that threat in the glimpses we have seen of him so far. Once he recovers from his hamstring injury, he'll show it again.
