Micky van de Ven's future has been spoken about a lot this season.

The Dutchman has been one of Tottenham's best players over the last couple of years with his performances even earning him a fair few appearances for the Netherlands national team.

However, since Spurs are only one point above the relegation zone, there's a real chance that Igor Tudor's men could end up getting relegated this season.

Indeed, they are still fighting for the Champions League but, since they were beaten 5-2 by Atletico Madrid on Tuesday evening, it's clear that they're no match for Diego Simeone's men.

This is where Liverpool come in. The Reds are in dire need of defensive reinforcement which is why the Dutchman has been linked with an Anfield switch.

Van De Ven already has a solid relationship with many of Slot's men and now, an update on Liverpool's stance on the centre-back has been shared.

Liverpool are not in for Micky van de Ven at the moment

The fact that Van De Ven is only 24 years old means that he still has his best years ahead of him.

And, while he may have been a tad hot-headed this season, most players in his position would be feeling the same.

Although his best position is centre-back, over the years he has been used as a left-back which could be key for Liverpool this term, especially since Andy Robertson looks to be on his way out.

However, with so many players being linked with a Liverpool switch, some rumours that emerge will clearly be fake.

And, at the moment, that seems to be the case with Van De Ven.

That is, according to an update from journalist Dominic King who has said via talkSPORT that, at the moment, Slot and Richard Hughes are not wanting to make a move for the Dutchman.

"From what I’ve heard, I don’t believe they’re in for him. I would never say anything definitively about a football transfer because things can change," he said.

"I would believe that he would want to come to Liverpool. That’s from what I’ve heard, but I’m not sure that the feeling is totally mutual at this moment in time."

Micky van de Ven could have been Liverpool's answer for their Virgil van Dijk replacement

Liverpool are in desperate need of some fresh blood in defence.

The Reds have performed well below their usual standards for most of the 2025-26 season and, without some new defenders being brought in, they could find themselves in a lot of trouble next season.

That's why it's hardly surprising to see players such as Nico Schlotterbeck and Van De Ven being linked with joining the Reds every week.

And, since Virgil van Dijk's contract is set to expire in 2027, it's unclear whether or not the Dutchman is going to stay.

Not only would this mean that Liverpool's best centre-back would be gone but it would also mean that they'd have even less depth than they already have.

There's still a lot of moving parts which need to be solved ahead of the summer transfer window but, the fact that Liverpool are not currently pursuing a move for Van De Ven could indicate that they don't want him at all.

That is, unless Spurs get relegated and he's then available for a cut-rate fee, of course.
