Richard Hughes' £10 million mistake REVEALED
Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes have secured a number of excellent deals for Liverpool, but their track records aren’t perfect.
Edwards returned to club in 2024 after a two-year hiatus, although in a new position as FSG’s CEO of football.
Shortly after Edwards’ return was confirmed, Hughes was announced as Liverpool’s Director of Football and the pair were put in charge of finding Jurgen Klopp’s successor.
Arne Slot was eventually appointed as the Reds’ new head coach, and that decision paid off as the Dutchman won the Premier League at the first time of asking.
Now, as pressure mounts on Slot during a tough second season, a £10 million mistake made by the people who hired him is becoming apparent.

Liverpool’s £10 million mistake now clear
After enduring the worst run in recent history, losing nine in a 12-game run, Slot was in the hot seat, and many thought his job was in serious danger.
The Reds looked to have recovered from that abysmal form, with results improving, but now performances have dropped off again and there are once again questions being asked of Slot.
Manchester United and Chelsea, two of Liverpool’s biggest rivals for a top four spot this season, sacked their managers in the last week despite only sitting three points behind Slot’s side.
One of the biggest talking points with Ruben Amorim’s sacking was the fact United would have to pay out the remainder of the 18 months remaining on his contract up front.
If Liverpool were to make the decision to move on from Slot, they would likely have to do the same.
According to the Mirror, Slot earns an estimated £6-8 million per year, meaning sacking the Dutchman now would cost Liverpool somewhere between £9-£12 million.
Slot is one of the highest paid managers in the league and, although he may have been worthy of that wage last season, giving an unproven manager such a high salary was a risk.
If Liverpool do make the decision to move on from Arne Slot it will cost them, and Edwards and Hughes may now regret giving the head coach such a big salary.

Slot is not the problem here when I read that transfers have been made against slots wishes one such transfer was the sale of Diaz, Edwards and Hughes need to be held accountable for this.

The difference between last season and this one, Slot tried to alter a winning team by getting rid of Klopps players and bring in his own team in. We only needed a No 2, 4 or 5 and 9 But he made too many changes too quick.
