Richard Hughes is stepping up contract talks with KEY midfielder
Liverpool have got a few contract issues to solve in midfield over the coming months.
In 2027 Curtis Jones’ current deal will expire. The homegrown star’s importance to Arne Slot has been underlined over the last few weeks and it will be imperative that Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes soon ties him down.
And the summer of 2028 brings three MORE high-profile midfield contract expirations. And if Liverpool have got plans to keep Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch on board then they will need to get moving.
Szoboszlai has been the Premier League champions’ best player this season and is due a pay rise from his current weekly wage of around £120k per week.
Gravenberch contract expires in 2028
Mac Allister’s situation is less clear-cut considering his form hasn’t been as good this term compared to the 2024/25 season.
But if the Anfield club intend to protect the Argentina World Cup winner’s transfer value then they will need to conclude contract talks swiftly.
Then there’s Gravenberch. The 23-year-old joined in 2023 as part of a major midfield refit alongside Szoboszlai, Mac Allister and Wataru Endo.
The Dutchman has outperformed expectations since his move from Bayern Munich - establishing himself as one of the best No6s in the world game.
Liverpool plot Gravenberch contract renewal
And now according to trusted Liverpool source Paul Joyce Liverpool decision-makers are ready to sit down with Graveberch over a new deal.
Next summer he will only have two seasons left to run on a contract worth an estimated £150k per week.
And Liverpool will be well aware of interest in their midfield star from Real Madrid and elsewhere - meaning they will have to satisfy the former Ajax prodigy’s contract demands.
“Liverpool are planning to open contract talks with Ryan Gravenberch,” a report in the Times reads.
“No formal discussions have taken place so far, but there is a keenness to secure the future of the Netherlands midfielder, who will have two years remaining on his deal in the summer.”
It’s going to prove to be a costly operation to tie down all the Reds’ preferred midfield options to new deals.
Starting with Gravenberch offers a massive indication where the club’s priorities lie - and hopefully we can get going on Mac Allister, Szoboszlai and Jones before long.

Why did they loan out Elliott? Now, Lfc has no more super-sub to turnover a game. Lfc is in a mess because those making decisions do not understand football and players' need. They just think of money. They sold Diaz and loaned Elliott, just because of money. These two gems should have been kept in the squad.
