Richard Hughes has agreed a genius midfield transfer this summer.

The middle of the park is one area where Liverpool haven't needed to invest as much this summer. With Florian Wirtz coming in to play the no.10 role, Dominik Szoboszlai has been able to drop to play deeper thus giving Arne Slot ample options in that department.

Long gone are the days of Liverpool desperately trying to sign Martin Zubimendi. Now they have Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo has again risen to the challenge to become an astute deputy.

Waiting on the wings is also Trey Nyoni, who scored in pre-season and looked like a very exciting prospect alongside Rio Ngumoha.

Long-term though, Liverpool will likely want to add more depth to the midfield. Endo cannot be trusted to play there for years to come. At this moment in time, he's adequate as an option but that's it.

It was as a result of this depth that a few players have also been forced to leave this summer and some may yet leave.

Harvey Elliott is one of those players who could be on his way out before the transfer deadline.

Another highly rated youngster in James McConnell could also be on the move. Although he's expected to go out on loan rather than leave on a permanent deal.

Meanwhile, earlier on in the summer Tyler Morton was forced to leave in order to get more game time. Once lauded for his performances at the San Siro, Morton has always been very highly rated at the club.

But it's clear the pathway into the first team is blocked for him at the moment.

So, a move to Lyon made sense. And just over a month later, it's making even more sense with Morton becoming an instant success.

Morton started both of the French side's first two games of the season and played the full 90 minutes. He caught the eye in both matches, winning the most tackles (3) in his Ligue 1 debut and then putting in a stunning performance on Saturday night against Metz.

Morton created the most chances (3) and was the most fouled player on the pitch (3) while winning all four of his ground duels and completing 63 of his 69 attempted passes.

His manager Jorge Maciel gave him high praise at the end of the game describing how Morton looked like he had been playing at the club for 30 years.

It looks like things are heading in the perfect direction and if Morton keeps this up, he won't be at Lyon for long. They'll be able to make a big profit from his sale, as the French club always do.

And when that happens Richard Hughes' genius agreement will come into effect. That's because the club's sporting director agreed a very clever detail in Morton's transfer.

As per The Athletic, Liverpool have a 20% sell on clause from Morton's future sale. This is on top of the 5% they already get from him being an academy player.

So this ensures, either Liverpool make millions from Morton in the future, or they could potentially sign him for a discount considering the clause in place.

It's a genius piece of business and something Hughes deserves massive credit for.
