Record-breaking Liverpool forward confirms surgery after season-ending injury
Liverpool have got a top academy talent surging through their ranks.
Joshua Abe, 15, has recently made the step up to Under-18 and UEFA Youth League sides. His talent is too good to be contained in his own age group.
But the Premier League champions are running into a spot of contract bother over the Warrington-born winger. Abe - given his age - is only permitted a scholar’s contract offer and as of right now he hasn’t signed one.
The England U16 international won’t be eligible for a pro deal until he turns 17 in 2027 - and that opens the door to rival bids.
Real Madrid looking at Joshua Abe
Real Madrid - as well as certain Premier League sides - are thought to be keen on contracting Abe who is signed up to Tyler Alexander-Arnold’s PLG agency.
Madrid recently rolled out the red carpet for the left-footer to visit the Bernabeu and Liverpool have had to pull out all the stops to entice him to stay.
Incredibly Abe has ALREADY been called up to train with Arne Slot’s first team - where he is seen as a potential long-term replacement for Mo Salah.
Joshua Abe undergoes surgery
But those dreams - and Liverpool’s contract hopes - will have to wait for now.
Abe was injured on England duty a few weeks ago - with it being confirmed that his season had reached a premature end. Owing to a serious lower leg injury Abe would be forced to recuperate on the sidelines and the player has now provided a new update.
Writing on his Instagram account Abe confirmed he had undergone surgery on the injury with recovery work now set to commence.
“Surgery done, hard work starts now,” he wrote.
Unfortunately for Liverpool they won’t be able to offer Abe the sweetener of training with the first team between now and the time his terms expire.
Having broken the record for becoming the club’s youngest player in UEFA Youth League history - and with an U18 Premier League hat-trick in his record collection - the Reds can ill-afford to lose one of the game’s coming forces.
