£65m Liverpool transfer offer looks CERTAIN
A monster transfer offer now looks certain as Liverpool plan a busy January. The Reds know their rebuild isn't done.
It does feel slightly insane that everyone expects Liverpool to spend big this winter. This is a club that spent over £400m last summer to improve on their title-winning side.
That improvement has not come, however, with Liverpool performing well below the levels of last season. Let alone those expected of them this season.
And so there is a sense that the rebuild just isn’t done. Liverpool need a bit more reshaping and couple more pieces before everything can click together as a functional team.
That means more spending and one offer looks near-certain given the reporting around it. £65m on a new winger.
Liverpool to bid for Antoine Semenyo
The Telegraph reports that Bournemouth fully expect to receive offers for Antoine Semenyo in January. The winger has a £65m release clause and there are several interested teams.
The only one mentioned by the Telegraph, though, is Liverpool. The Reds have consistently been linked with Semenyo over the last month or so and it's one that makes sense.
The Reds will need a new winger at some stage. Luis Diaz left the club without a replacement in the summer, while there isn't actually any natural backup to Mo Salah in the squad.
Semenyo would fill some important gaps, then - and he's been in the kind of form that suggests he can kick on a level in the right environment. Liverpool would back themselves to be that environment, despite the struggles of the summer signings.
Florian Plettenberg is one of those mentioning Semenyo as an option for Liverpool. He also states that the Reds want a new winger and the Ghanaian would be a brilliant candidate for that.
That release clause makes it almost certainly that someone bids for the player. Few have more need for him than Liverpool and if they're truly looking to spend again, an offer looks near-certain.
