Premier League rivals complete deal for key Liverpool star

Tottenham have secured the services of a key figure from Liverpool's Premier League title success last season.

There have been a number of new arrivals at Anfield not just when it comes to players but in the backroom staff as well.

With a number of vacancies to fill, Liverpool have brought in Rob Page as the club's U21 head-coach, Giovanni van Bronckhorst as an assistant coach to Arne Slot and Xavi Valero as the club's goalkeeping coach.

The latter was probably the most surprising new arrival for Liverpool. It was not expected that Liverpool would be making changes in the goalkeeping department.

Last season, the goalkeeping area was where the Reds were the strongest. Allison Becker produced some stunning moments in goal. Meanwhile, Caoimhin Kelleher was the perfect understudy and Vitezslav Jaros also stepped up in the rare moments when he was needed.

A key part of that success was Fabian Otte, who was brought in from the USMNT last year to be the club's goalkeeping coach.

But Liverpool announced Otte was leaving as well as Claudio Taffarel with Valero coming in to replace them.

The reason behind this decision is a mystery, but it seems like Otte has already found his next destination.

According to Sami Mokbel from the BBC, he's set to complete a deal to join Thomas Frank at Tottenham.

It's an interesting move. As we said, Otte was a key figure at Anfield and credited with the success of the goalkeeping department.

However, Liverpool are clearly taking a new direction when it comes to goalkeepers.

Kelleher has left to join Brentford, meanwhile Jaros has gone out on loan.

In their place, the club is bringing in three new goalkeepers. Giorgi Mamardashvili is going to be Liverpool's second choice and he's expected to fight it out with Alisson for the no.1 spot.

Meanwhile, Freddie Woodman has arrived as the club's homegrown third choice goalkeeper on a free transfer. Also fighting for that spot will be Armin Pecsi, who joined from Puskas Akademia, and who is seen as a future no.1 at Liverpool.

Pecsi will be playing in the club's U21 team, while he will also have an opportunity to train with Valero and the first team goalkeepers, and fight it out for the number three spot with Woodman.

The reasons for Otte's departure are still unclear but it's obvious Tottenham are getting a more than competent star. Otte is renowned for his work with goalkeepers and he will be bolstering Frank's backroom staff in the capital.

This is a blow to Liverpool. At the same time, though, Valero is also a very well-established figure who has been known to be one of the best goalkeeping coaches in the world.
