Michael Olise or Antoine Semenyo: Liverpool’s Mo Salah successor
Liverpool need to think about a Mo Salah successor. They've got two sensational options.
Yes, Liverpool only sorted Mo Salah's contract back in April. You'd think that would buy a long time without having to think about his future.
Unfortunately, that's not the case and Liverpool will have it at the front of their minds. Salah only signed a two-year contract after all and at 33, it's not very likely he signs another one as the main man up top.
His ridiculously good injury record also means Liverpool have never signed proper backup for Salah. There's essentially no one at the club ready to take over from him and at the very least, some sort of competition must be signed before he leaves.
We think there are two absolutely outstanding candidates for that role. Whether Liverpool can land them is another matter - but they're surely the targets.
Michael Olise vs Antoine Semenyo
Liverpool are reportedly looking at Michael Olise, whose future with Bayern Munich isn't all that certain. Olise is contracted there for the next few years but there's a feeling that he's already outgrown his current deal and Bayern are eager to tie him down to another.
If he doesn't accept a new one, they may feel inclined to sell while his price is sky-high. That's where Liverpool come in, along with the likes of Manchester City.
Now, Olise would be the dream Salah successor. He's a world-class talent, consistently performing for an elite team in major competitions.
He knows the Premier League, has repeatedly adapted to new environments and, as a magnificent bonus, has homegrown status. There's basically only one downside - his actual availability.
Bayern aren't easy to buy from and Olise may not even fancy leaving there. If he does, the money involved will be enormous.
Liverpool have proven this year that they're willing to spend huge amounts but the costs here mean they absolutely cannot bank on Olise signing. There are too many moving parts and it's an incredibly complex transfer.
Which is why Antoine Semenyo might ultimately be the pick. The Telegraph claim that people at Liverpool see him as an 'ideal' signing and we'd go along with that.
He ticks many of the same boxes as Olise, including homegrown status, but does lack a proven track record at the elite level. Bournemouth, after all, are the biggest club Semenyo has played for.
However, he is certainly more attainable. Talksport claims he has a release clause, in fact, and while we don't know what that valuation is, it does mean a deal can be done.
Olise is the dream, then. Semenyo is perhaps the more realistic option for arguably the biggest task facing Liverpool right now.
