Michael Edwards will FINALLY sign superstar for Liverpool after nine years

Michael Edwards could finally pull off a transfer he's been working on for nine years at Liverpool.

FSG brought back the club's former sporting director for a reason. They know he's simply too valuable to not be at the club. Edwards' role is now wider than just solely being responsible for Liverpool.

He's the CEO of FSG, which means he is also working on establishing a multi-club model for the club's owners. This hasn't happened yet which means Edwards is still very much focused on Liverpool alongside the club's sporting director, Richard Hughes.

Their mission has been to rebuild Liverpool this summer and it's very clear that's what they have delivered.

Liverpool have objectively become a better team with a long-term future.

The likes of Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, Giovanni Leoni and Milos Kerkez are not just signings for the now but for the next decade.

There has been a lot said about Alexander Isak over the course of the last few months.

What's clear is that he has been the prime candidate for the no.9 role at Liverpool for a long time.

In fact Liverpool have relentless pursued him for nine years now. Edwards had tried to sign him all the way back in 2016.

Back then, Isak was on Liverpool's radar as per Sport and he was dubbed as the 'new Zlatan Ibrahimovic.' Edwards was looking to reinforce the club's options with fresh young talent and Isak seemed like the most exciting young forward in European football at the time.

Liverpool even held a secret meeting with Isak's representatives in order to persuade him to join the club.

Isak's numbers were brilliant at the time, he had burst onto the scene as a teenager and averaged 0.62 goals per 90, and overperformed his xG by 0.19 per 90, which is roughly how much he overperformed his xG last season in the Premier League - highlighting that he's always been a superior finisher.

Based on the data, it made sense for Liverpool to pursue him. Even back then it was obvious he was the full package. But at the time, Borussia Dortmund won the race for Isak's signature.

The German side then subsequently never gave him a chance to spread his wings.

It took Isak several years to get back to the level he had promised during his AIK.

But he never left Liverpool's radar. They pushed to sign him even when he wasn't having a great output at Real Sociedad in 2022, but back then Darwin Nunez was favoured by other members of the recruitment team.

This is why they won't just give up on the Swede. Even if Newcastle tried to resist their attempts.

After Isak's latest statement on Instagram, verifying what David Ornstein had said about how he doesn't want to play for the club anymore, due to broken promises, there's no way back for him at Newcastle.

Isak could not have made it any clearer that he wants to play for the Reds. And as Liverpool fans we know this story only ends one way. We've seen it with Luis Suarez, Raheem Sterling and Philippe Coutinho.

Ultimately, Edwards will get his man. Isak will be a Liverpool player. There's no doubting that. Whether it's this summer or in January, it's only a matter of time not an if.

Liverpool's relentless pursuit of Isak over the course of the last nine years shows they won't give up. And Isak's actions have shown he won't change his mind either.

This is going to happen. Whether Newcastle like it or not.
