Man City BLOW Liverpool out of the water with £13m contract offer
Liverpool have got a few contract issues to sort out in the next few months.
Most pressingly they will require a replacement for Ibrahima Konate should - as expected - the Frenchman decline the club’s offers for a renewal.
And then there’s the situations of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez. Both are contracted until 2027 - but right now it doesn’t look likely that either will be at Anfield beyond that point.
Liverpool’s centre-back restock has already begun - with the signings of young defenders like Giovanni Leoni, Noah Adekayo and Mor Talla Ndiaye.
Another deal for Austrian tyro Ifeanyi Ndukwe is expected to be wrapped up soon.
Marc Guehi a January target for Man City
And while those signing secure the Premier League champions’ future at centre-back in the long term there remains a need to recruit defenders.
Van Dijk and Konate are the first-choice duo and Gomez is the only senior player Arne Slot has got in reserve right now. And with Conor Bradley injured surely the 28-year-old will be needed at right-back too.
The need to add a player like Marc Guehi - either in January or summer - is obvious. But having missed their chance at signing the Crystal Palace captain last summer the Merseyside outfit now face increased competition for his signature.
Reports continue to suggest that Guehi favours a move to Anfield on a free transfer at the end of the season and right now there are no indications that Richard Hughes will sanction a transfer this January.
City plan mammoth £250k per week Guehi offer
That stance has opened the door for Manchester City however - who are now ready to blow Liverpool out of the water with a mammoth contract offer to the England man.
According to a report in TEAMtalk Pep Guardiola’s side are ready to hand Guehi a contract worth up to £250k per week - £13m a year in all.
And furthermore with Guehi entitled to a bumper signing-on fee next summer should he move on a Bosman the Cityzens are also looking to give the 25-year-old a huge bonus should he move this winter.
It looks like Palace may be open to a deal - and it will be beneath the £35m they asked for last summer now that Guehi has only got six months on his contract.
City have already moved on one Liverpool transfer target this winter in the shape of Antoine Semenyo - and it would be a source of big frustration if the Etihad side have success again.
