Man City force Liverpool into massive transfer move
Liverpool have been linked with several players since the summer transfer window slammed shut.
Although they spent over Β£450 million on improving their ranks, it's clear that some areas of their first-team squad still need bolstering.
Last term, the Reds' defence was seen as one of the strongest in the Premier League.
However, this season, things haven't quite gone to plan with Ibrahima Konate putting in some of his worst-ever performances.
This, coupled with the fact that Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez haven't managed to settle in has caused a couple of problems for Richard Hughes with the Englishman now having his hand forced by Manchester City.
Manchester City are set to make a move for Marc Guehi
Marc Guehi's future has been a consistent topic of conversation since the 2025-26 season got underway.
Throughout most of the summer transfer window, most fans, pundits and journalists thought that the centre-back would become a Liverpool player but right at the last minute, Steve Parish pulled out of the deal.
This led to even more questions being asked about his future with other clubs across the world having their interest piqued due to his contract expiry in June 2026.
However, it now seems like Manchester City are about to enter the fray and potentially make a move for the Crystal Palace captain.
That is, according to a report from BBC Sport journalist Sami Mokbel who took to X and stated the following.
"Man City explore move for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi for January," he wrote.
"Follows injuries to Ruben Dias & Josko Gvardiol. No final decision from City over formal approach but interest has accelerated.
"Liverpool and Bayern Munich also interested."
Liverpool could be forced into making a move for Marc Guehi
Even though Liverpool conducted Guehi's medical in summer, they have since chose against making another move for the Englishman.
Indeed, they were likely waiting until they could negotiate a free transfer for the centre-back but now that Man City are showing an interest in the defender, Hughes' hand may be forced into making a premature move.
If his transfer is sanctioned, the Reds would likely pay much more than what he's worth due to the interest shown in him by other clubs and their desperation for new centre-backs.
Of course, if the fee ends up exceeding the Β£35 million that was agreed upon in the summer, Liverpool would likely walk away.
However, if they want to beat Pep Guardiola to the transfer, they'll still have to offer a decent chunk of change, which is likely the main thing putting the Anfield outfit off making a move.
That is, despite how much he'd end up improving their team.

What a shift from last summer when Liverpool nearly got Guehi. Now with Man City involved, it feels like the Cowboy Safari Reds are under real pressure to act. Do fans think this could push Liverpool into a bidding war or prompt them to target a different defender entirely?
