Liverpool’s Premier League rivals could already be about to ruin their season

Liverpool have a lot of work that they still need to do this summer.

They managed to win two of their first three pre-season friendlies against Sunderland and Wrexham with Leeds United managing to beat them 4-2.

Indeed, these games can't be looked at as how things will definitely pan out at Anfield due to the number of fringe and academy players that were used.

But, it did make it more than clear that at least another two defenders need to be brought in by Liverpool.

Their depth in that area was already shocking last term and, now that Ibrahima Konate and Andy Robertson have both left, the Reds look even weaker.

So, the fact that several defenders are already being linked with a Liverpool move is hardly surprising but, unfortunately for them, one of their Premier League rivals could be about to completely ruin their season.

Tottenham want to sign Jarell Quansah from Bayer Leverkusen

Last summer, Arne Slot got rid of a lot of the Reds' depth.

Players such as Luis Diaz, Jarell Quansah and Darwin Nunez were all moved on so that Liverpool could fund one of the busiest transfer windows for any team ever.

Players such as Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz were added to Liverpool's ranks with many people believing that those additions would make them close to unstoppable.

However, that was certainly not the case with the Anfield outfit finishing fifth in the Premier League.

This lack of form has led to several players being linked with a move to L4 this summer and now, one of their most-linked defenders, Quansah, could be on his way to another Premier League team instead.

"Tottenham and Newcastle are targeting Jarell Quansah," Ekrem Konur shared via his personal X account.

"But Liverpool show the strongest interest in reuniting with their former academy graduate."

Much like most of Liverpool's youngster's, Slot wasn't keen on Quansah.

The Dutchman often chose to use any other player over the Englishman despite him being able to play as a centre-back or a right-back.

Each of those positions are problem areas for Liverpool at the moment and, it feels like they're going to have to spend an awful lot more than the £35 million that they got for Quansah to solve the issue.

Indeed, several players have already been linked with an Anfield switch this summer but, since the Reds haven't really made a move for any defenders yet, it's clear that bolstering their defence isn't one of their main priorities.

This is a rather mental thing to write down as, over the course of Liverpool's pre-season tour of the USA, Luke Chambers, who is a left-back by trade, has been used in the centre of defence due to the lack of depth that the Anfield outfit have.

Of course, Liverpool's move for Bradley Barcola is likely to take up most of their budget but, at the moment, it's unclear if that move will even end up working out.

So, that's why the Reds should cast their net far and wide for their targets this summer, especially if they don't want Tottenham to prise away their perfect player this summer.
