Liverpool have four players confirmed as nominees for the 2025 Ballon d'Or. Here they are.

France Football announced the nominees for the 2025 Ballon d'Or on Thursday. This is an award covering all of last season, with Paris Saint-Germain striker Ousmane Dembele arguably the favourite right now.

The reigning holder is Rodri, of course, who somewhat-controversially won over Vinicius Jr last year. Though, it's incredibly debatable whether the Brazilian actually deserved to win it.

This time around there are four Liverpool stars hoping to get their hands on the trophy. One of those will be hoping to do so without any of his games coming for the Reds, mind.

And with no Liverpool winner since 2001, we're crossing our fingers for this lot. Here's who got the nod.

Mo Salah

Unquestionably the man with the best chance of winning it from Liverpool's quartet, Mo Salah is nominated. There was a point last season where he looked nailed-on to win it, in fact.

Ultimately, Salah's season trailed off but he still finished the campaign with more goals and assists than any other player in league football. That might have been including European competition, too, if not for Liverpool meeting Paris Saint-Germain so early in the UEFA Champions League.

We'll always maintain that Salah would be considered a better player by many if he had his season's the other way around. He typically excels beyond belief over the first half of the season before having a quieter second.

That makes absolutely no difference to winning a league title, though - but people might have his exploits a little fresher in their collective memories.

Virgil van Dijk

There’s no question that Virgil van Dijk was the world’s best defender last season as far as we're concerned. He was ridiculously good as the Reds walked to the Premier League title.

The captain put in a sensational season that sees him nominated for the award he barely lost out on back in 2018. He’s certainly an outsider this time around but seeing him nominated is fantastic.

Well deserved for the world’s best.

Alexis Mac Allister

Ryan Gravenberch got the plaudits across the first half of last season in his new role at Liverpool. It was Alexis Mac Allister, however, who ended up stealing the show.

Is there a better all-around midfielder right now? We’re not sure there is. Mac Allister does everything for Liverpool, linking play, pressing hard, scoring goals, and influencing games in every which way.

Wouldn’t swap him for the world, quite honestly.

Florian Wirtz

Florian Wirtz joined Liverpool for a record fee this summer so his nomination here comes on the back of his final season at Bayer Leverkusen. That season saw him score 10 times in the Bundesliga and assist another 12.

There's a reason Liverpool paid all that money, after all.

Wirtz was also named the best player in Germany by his fellow professionals. Fully deserved, too, as he went back-to-back with the award.

A world-class player but a very outside chance of winning the Ballon d'Or. Check back in a year, though.
