Liverpool wonderkid makes MOMENTOUS breakthrough
Liverpool have had great success in recent years with their youth and academy players.
Whether it’s developing talents for the first team - like Conor Bradley or Rio Ngumoha – or else preparing them for a career elsewhere, the Reds have got a great formula to maximise potential in their academy jewels.
With Ngumoha established in the first-team picture, there are a few other standout talents in and around the senior ranks.
Some are patiently biding their time - making the most of the opportunities they have to embed themselves with Arne Slot’s Premier League title-winning squad.
Kieran Morrison on the fringes of the Liverpool first team
One such name is Kieran Morrison, a versatile 18-year-old attacker, who has got shades of Mohamed Salah in his game. The left-footer can operate across the attacking line but looks most at home on the right side.
Born in Manchester, Morrison played for the Manchester United youth academy before joining Liverpool at under-14s.
Since then he’s sat on the bench for the first team - away at PSV in the Champions League last season and against Southampton in the EFL Cup at Anfield a few weeks ago - but awaits his senior debut.
Kieran Morrison debuts for Northern Ireland U21
Morrison has however now taken a decisive step in the international arena. A star at various age groups for Northern Ireland, the forward made his Under-21 debut on Thursday night as Tommy Wright’s side eased to a 2-0 win over Malta in Belfast.
Morrison came off the bench late on for a debut - testing the opposition goalkeeper with a free-kick - after goals from Makenzie Kirk and Michael Forbes gave the hosts an unassailable lead in the UEFA Under-21 Euro 2027 qualification match.
Stepping up to the U21 ranks means that Morrison’s progress remains on track. All he needs now is to keep consistent and surely a first-team debut with the Reds won’t be far off.
