Liverpool will break every rule to sign record-breaking €100m star
Mohamed Salah's post-match comments after Leeds United have put Liverpool in a difficult position.
Arne Slot's decision to drop the Egyptian to the bench for the Reds' last three games has backfired. It has culminated in Salah expressing his displeasure and his broken relationship publicly with the Liverpool head-coach.
Now he has claimed that 'someone' at the club wants him to not be there. Who that person is moot. Salah didn't specifically suggest one individual or even if that was actually the case but merely how he felt and interpreted his situation.
Heading into this last week before he jets off to the African Cup of Nations, it feels like Salah is almost preparing for this to be his final week at the club.
Undoubtedly, that puts Liverpool in a very difficult position. It means that in the January transfer window they are going to have to replace Mo Salah.
This is not something the club's directors would have planned. There has been interest in Antoine Semenyo but he has always been regarded as a replacement for Luis Diaz not Salah.
Now, given the situation and the interest around Semenyo, it feels like Liverpool may even miss out on the Ghanian with Arsenal and Manchester City hot on his pursuit.
So, that leaves Liverpool having to scramble to find a player who is worthy of stepping into Salah's shoes.
Which is basically impossible. One way or another Liverpool are going to have to take a gamble and they may have to break all their previous rules when it comes to recruitment to do it.
Recently, there have been reports that the club's senior scouts are urging Liverpool's recruitment team to sign Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig.
The 19-year-old winger has played just 25 senior games for Leipzig and his previous side Leganes. Yet RB Leipzig already want €100m for his services.
This is an extremely small sample size, and it's not the type of transfer Liverpool like to do. Such a steep sum for a player with not that many minutes in senior football is a huge risk.
But Diomande is an exception. He's the kind of player you scrap all the rules for, because he is simply that special.
At the weekend, he destroyed Eintracht Frankfurt's defence scoring a hat-trick in the process and becoming the youngest player in the Bundesliga to score a hat-trick in over 50 years as per Opta.
He's already breaking record within just a few months of arriving in Germany. His output is incredible as well averaging a goal or assist every 86 minutes at the moment.
Then there's the speed. He has recorded the second fastest top speed in the league (35.98km/h). He's extremely rapid. He excels in in his one vs one situations as well.
No one has completed more take-ons (37) than him in the Bundesliga so far this season.
He's simply an incredible player. The type of player who is actually good enough to replace Salah. Sure, he's only 19-years-old. Of course, there are areas of his game he could improve.
But when it comes to his performances and his potential, he is an elite player of the highest calibre. This kind of player doesn't come around often.
It's the kind of signing that could define Liverpool's success for a generation to come. It's why even though it breaks every rule that club has followed, it also feels like it's now inevitable that a move at least will be attempted in January for Diomande.
Given Salah's situation and the glowing reports from the club's scouts, Diomande feels like the transfer to pursue.
