It's now looking inevitable that Liverpool are going to activate a £70m agreement Richard Hughes struck.

Obviously, a lot hinges on how the club's sporting director will be judged on how the final day of the window goes for the Reds.

Whether putting all his eggs in the Alexander Isak and Marc Guehi baskets was a good idea or not, remains to be seen.

Certainly you cannot blame Hughes and the Liverpool recruitment team for making that decision. Ultimately, Isak is one of the best players in the Premier League. He's definitely worth waiting for.

It's the same for Guehi. He's proven over the course of the last few seasons that not only is he one of the best young centre-backs in the Premier League, he's also the future of England and one of the Three Lions' best defenders.

This is why this summer wasn't just about next season for Liverpool. It was a rebuild. So, Hughes has had his eyes on the future all summer.

He wanted to make sure that Liverpool's business would benefit them for the long-term. So perhaps that's why it was a surprise when the Reds agreed to sell Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen.

The young England international is an extremely talented centre-back and he seemed like he was the future of the club. But Hughes has decided to let him go with Quansah's desire for more game time.

Already Quansah's start to life in the Bundesliga has been encouraging despite a difficult start by Leverkusen. He scored on his debut and has performed impressively, with this being backed up by his numbers as well.

At this moment in time Quansah has completed the third most passes (144) among centre-backs and he's also won the most aerial duels (9) and the second most duels (27).

His duel-winning ability was something he was criticised for last season by Slot after his performance against Ipswich Town. Now though Quansah is proving he can step up to the levels needed and showcasing his quality and ability to improve.

Hughes being the clever man that he is, didn't just agree to sell Quansah he agreed a future buy-back clause for the Reds as per Fabrizio Romano. This could be worth a total sum of £70m with add-ons.

If Quansah continues his performances, Liverpool will absolutely trigger that release clause. He's showing he's perfect for the Reds, he just needs a season or two playing regular football.

And in a year or two he'll be ready to return to Anfield once again.

This is why the buy-back clause was such a genius move from Hughes and why it's inevitable that the Reds are going to activate it.
