Liverpool want deal for South American wonderkid, he'd only cost €9m

Liverpool have had a fairly busy couple of seasons in the transfer window.

The Anfield outfit have spent more than £500 million on new players over the last couple of years with the club even breaking their transfer record twice.

Last season, things didn't go to plan whatsoever with Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz both failing to impress.

This lack of form led to Arne Slot being sacked and resulted in Andoni Iraola being appointed as Liverpool's new boss.

Since then, Liverpool have been unbeaten across all competitions and, even though there are a couple of areas that could still do with being upgraded, they seem to be doing well.

As much as this improvement in form is good for Liverpool, it doesn't mean that they've stopped planning ahead for their future with a new wonderkid now being linked with an Anfield switch.

Liverpool want to sign Tomas Aranda from Boca Juniors

One of Liverpool's main goals over the last couple of transfer windows has been to get their team prepared for the future.

Several players among their ranks are now entering the twilight stages of their career and, even though some such as Virgil van Dijk and Alisson are still two of Liverpool's best players, the Reds could certainly do with getting a succession plan in place for them.

They've already started to do this by signing KRC Genk 'keeper, Lucca Brughmans but, since there are 10 other positions among Liverpool's ranks, there's always room for more wonderkids to enter the frame.

Obviously, signing young players who haven't met their potential yet is a bit of a risk but, according to an update from Argentinian outlet El Intransigente, Liverpool are now eyeing a €9 million (£7.7 million) deal for Boca Juniors sensation, Tomas Aranda.

"In recent hours, Liverpool's interest in Tomás Aranda has emerged . The Premier League giants are closely monitoring his performances . The English club plans to make an offer to sign him at the beginning of 2027," they wrote.

"The player's market value is nine million euros. For coach Rodolfo Arruabarrena, the youngster is a very important player. The coach intends to have the talented midfielder available once he receives medical clearance.

"Besides Liverpool, other European clubs are also monitoring the playmaker. Inter Milan, Arsenal, Chelsea, Aston Villa, and Como 1907 are all considering his situation. The board will demand a high fee to authorize his departure abroad.

"Boca Juniors fans expressed their desire to keep the talented youngster. The club's management will seek to increase his release clause in the coming months . The future of this rising star will be a key focus for the club."

Tomas Aranda would be an out there signing for Liverpool

As much as Liverpool like to prepare their squad for the future, Aranda would be a bit of a risk.

The Argentinian only contributed to five goals during the 33 games he played last season which, for an attacker, is far from ideal.

Indeed, his versatility to be able to play anywhere across the front three as well as a number 10 is highly sought-after.

But, versatility doesn't win games, goals do.

Of course, he's only 19 years old so there's plenty of time for him to figure out that side of his game but, since he wouldn't be able to qualify as a homegrown player in the future due to his age, the €9 million that Liverpool could end up spending on him might end up being a waste.

Fans have asked their clubs to sign players of this calibre before they finally break out and meet expectations but, on the face of things, this deal feels like a massive risk.

Especially since nobody knows how well Aranda is going to play upon his return from injury.
