It looks like Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes is preparing for another summer of big spending.

The Premier League champions broke the British transfer record TWICE last summer in deals for Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz.

Other players were recruited for a total spend of around £450m. But all is not well with the Reds currently and it looks like the squad needs more quality added to it.

In the wide attacking positions for example an upgrade for Cody Gakpo could be sourced while a replacement will be needed for Mohamed Salah.

All signs point to the end of the road for the Egyptian King - and he could join a team in the Saudi Pro League next summer despite a contract until 2027.

Liverpool in the driving seat for Diomande

One player who has been tipped to come in and add options on either side of the attack is Yan Diomande. The young Ivorian’s reputation has exploded over the last few months - since he joined RB Leipzig from Leganes in Spain.

Diomande, 19, cost only £18m last summer and following his move he has become an undroppable star in the Bundesliga as well as a full Ivory Coast international.

Despite a contract until 2030 it’s widely expected that the winger will be LEAVING next summer and right now it’s Liverpool who are in the driving seat.

That’s according to a new report in Caught Offside which claims a bid will be made by the Premier League champions in the next few months.

Liverpool to bid for £87m Diomande

Bidding will start for the forward at €100m (£87m) who Liverpool view as a “perfect fit” for their post-Salah rebuild.

“The Bundesliga club have informed all interested parties that any negotiation will only begin at €100 million,” the report reads. “Liverpool’s interest is currently the strongest.

“The Reds are expected to make a formal approach in the coming months, viewing Diomande as a long-term successor to Mohamed Salah and a perfect fit for their new system.”

Liverpool have had success in dealing with the Red Bull group in the past - signing the likes of Ibrahima Konate and Dominik Szoboszlai from their Leipzig club.

With Jurgen Klopp in place at Red Bull as their Global Head of Football the Merseysiders will no doubt be hoping their contacts will offer them favourable conditions ahead of rival clubs as we approach the summer transfer window.
