'Dream club' Liverpool MOVE in front for £87m superstar forward

Liverpool spent £450m on new players last summer - with Richard Hughes overhauling the Premier League champions’ strikeline.

Out went Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich while Darwin Nunez also departed for Al-Hilal. The Reds were content to spend big on Hugo Ekitike and also completed British record deals for Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak.

But there are signs that the Reds’ sporting director won’t stop there. Owing to uncertainty around Mo Salah - and the indifferent form of Cody Gakpo - Liverpool could end up moving for other wing targets in the near future.

Liverpool tracking Yan Diomande

One player who could come in and perform well on EITHER side of attack is the RB Leipzig starlet Yan Diomande. The Ivorian, 19, joined Leipzig back in summer from Leganes for £18m and has been impressive in his first season at the club.

The wing sensation is already being linked with an onward transfer - with several clubs in England and around Europe interested in his signature. Diomande is of course of interest to Bayern Munich - who are always scouring the Bundesliga for the standout players.

But it looks like decision-makers at Sabener Strasse have already accepted that Diomande will be moving to Liverpool imminently - and have set their sights elsewhere accordingly.

That’s according to a new report from Christian Falk - who claims a combination of Luis Diaz, Leipzig’s price tag and Diomande’s personal preference mean Bayern are going instead go for Said El Mala of FC Koln.

Bayern know Diomande is heading to Liverpool

“It’s a complicated situation with Yan Diomande (19), as Bayern already have a number one starter in this position in Diaz,” Falk writes in his CF Bayern Insider column.

“So, do they want to spend over €100m [£86.7m] for a player who they’re not sure will start ahead of the Colombian? “

He’s a teenager and a big talent, so Bayern will try something, but I don’t think they’re going to spend so much money on him. “Don’t forget that Diomande mentioned he has a dream club he’d love to play for: that’s Liverpool.

“They’re more likely to go for Said El Mala who had a good, if not quite brilliant, game against the Bundesliga leaders. He nearly scored in the first minute and is clearly a good talent.

“After the match, Max Eberl, Bayern’s head of sport, had very warm words for the 19-year-old and talked him up as a really good player. If he’s talking about a player from another club, you always have to consider this as a bit of a signal to the player that, “We like you, and perhaps we’ll see you next season!””

Diomande is under contract at the Red Bull-operated outfit until 2030 - scoring six goals and adding three assists in the German top flight so far.
