Wrexham are now just one step away from the Premier League.

It means the Hollywood-owned club have gained THREE successive promotions after being taken over by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in 2020/21.

They were in the National League back then and are now on the cusp of the richest league in the world.

It’s not exactly a fairytale, with Wrexham ruthlessly crushing the opposition by offering wages far out of whack for the divisions they’ve been in - often aiming for players dropping down a level.

Wrexham linked to PL stars

Costs to the actors are estimated at €18 million to €24m - according to Transfermarkt - but that investment has allowed Wrexham to get where they need to be.

And it won’t stop there.

The Welsh side are not aiming to consolidate in the Championship next season. They are going all out for Premier League promotion.

To achieve that aim will require more investment. Certain top-level players WILL be targeted; we’ve seen the likes of Jonny Evans and Jamie Vardy linked in recent days.

Wrexham are going to make a splash in the market and Liverpool might well opt to send some players their way.

The club are looking for a striker - with the iconic figure of Paul Mullin now looking on his way out the door - and creativity in midfield will be a must.

But Wrexham will seek to add quality all over in an effort to push forward. Championship promotion doesn’t come cheap. Here we look at three players who Wrexham could target in order to secure the promotion they so desperately seek.

LEWIS KOUMAS (LOAN)

Koumas has already played - and scored - for Liverpool’s first team but at 19 is probably a little way off being a realistic option for Arne Slot. He is destined for another loan deal next season - in line with the usual plan for the Reds’ academy graduates.

The Welsh international has enjoyed plenty of first-team football on loan at Stoke City in the Championship this campaign. It’s been a nightmare season for the Potters but Koumas has earned 26 starts and 43 appearances in the second tier overall.

He is precisely the sort of talent that Wrexham could target for a loan deal next term. Capable of playing across the attacking line and up front, Koumas could do with bumping up his goal output. He’s got only six this season in 49 matches overall.

JAYDEN DANNS (LOAN)

Jayden Danns will be CRAVING first-team football next season and could well be the striker to spearhead Wrexham’s promotion campaign.

The 19-year-old has recently signed a long-term contract at Anfield and it is clear that the club see a pathway for him. Slot has used him this season in four competitions and he’s even been on the scoresheet for the seniors.

Injuries scuppered an initial loan move at the start of the season with Plymouth interested and a second loan deal has failed too.

He’s spent more time at the AXA Training Centre than on Wearside following his move to Sunderland - with a back injury ending his time with the Championship club before a ball was kicked.

But next season - fit and reinvigorated - Danns will be seeking to get back among the goals. Wrexham links aren’t new either; he was promoted as a target back in January when the club were seeking to get over the line in League One.

NAT PHILLIPS (FREE)

It was reported by reliable Liverpool journalist James Pearce that cult hero Nat Phillips was “highly unlikely to play for the club again” back in February.

The centre-back signed a new contract with the Reds back in 2021 - taking him to summer 2025. With his terms now expiring, it looks like the 28-year-old will be on his way.

He has enjoyed a renaissance this season at Championship Derby County - establishing himself in the lineup and getting ready for the next step in his career.

With Premier League and Champions League experience, he could be the right type of figure to marshall the Wrexham backline next season.
