Liverpool want opportunistic deal for Serie A assists machine
Big changes are coming to Liverpool’s left-back slot next summer.
With Milos Kerkez establishing himself as first choice following his £40m move from Bournemouth the futures of both Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas increasingly seem to lie away from Anfield.
Robertson, 31, will be out of contract in 2026 and despite fans being keen to see the £160k per-week defender given another deal that doesn’t appear likely right now.
Tsimikas, 29, is out on loan at Roma but Richard Hughes will be expecting offers for the Greece international once he returns from Serie A with his contract expiring in 2027.
Although Liverpool have got some promising youngsters in and around the academy picture it seems as though the club have got bigger names in mind.
Liverpool looking at Federico Dimarco
We’ve seen Nathaniel Brown and Antonee Robinson linked in recent days - but there could also be a move made for Federico Dimarco of Inter.
The 28-year-old has registered a sensational 13 assists in Serie A this season from his left-sided station - behind only Michael Olise and Bruno Fernandes' season totals in Europe's top five leagues.
Although capable of playing as a traditional No3 the Italian international usually features further forward for Cristian Chivu’s side.
In truth Dimarco is more of a wing-back than left-back - which could hint that Arne Slot and Richard Hughes are plotting a new formation for next season.
Dimarco - whose contract expires in 2027 - plays wide of a midfield five - with Inter usually utilising a back three behind him.
Dimarco signing could hint at change of system
He could therefore give the Premier League champions the option of going to a back three - which would in turn mean different roles for the likes of Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong.
“Liverpool FC believe Federico Dimarco could adapt well to the Premier League style of play,” a report in Fichajes reads.
“The Italian is a full-back with a great ability to join the attack, good crossing quality, and a strong performance in offensive situations.
“At Anfield, they particularly value his attacking profile, something that fits with the style of Liverpool FC's full-backs, historically very active in building play.”
Dimarco is reported to be in contract talks with Inter over a new deal - meaning Richard Hughes has a window to capitalise and complete an opportunistic deal for the Serie A assist-machine.
