Two Liverpool stars now FIGHTING to save their futures
Two Liverpool players are facing increasingly uncertain futures.
Some major off-field manoeuvres have left the immediate career paths of James McConnell and Vitezslav Jaros in jeopardy.
John Heitinga, 42, was appointed new Ajax head coach last summer following a successful stint alongside Arne Slot at Liverpool.
The former Netherlands defender struck out on his own with boyhood club Ajax - but that union came to an unhappy end recently after only 15 matches.
Heitinga sacked by Ajax
Ajax’s Champions League campaign has been an embarrassment, while they ended up winning five of Heitinga’s 15 matches in total.
Heitinga’s departure brought chaos for McConnell and Jaros. He was the driving force behind their arrivals on loan in the first place.
McConnell, a hugely promising 21-year-old midfielder was requested by Heitinga but he’s not made a good start to his Eredivisie career.
He has played only four times in the Dutch top flight - making one start which ended at half-time.
McConnell and Jaros in danger
Jaros started the season as Ajax’s No1 but has recently lost his place to 42-year-old veteran Remko Pasveer.
To make matters worse for the pair it is now expected that Alex Kroes - the sporting director who agreed their signings from Liverpool - will be imminently replaced.
Once a new executive is in place - with Maxwell, Jordi Cruyff and Marc Overmars all linked - the search will begin for a new, permanent head coach.
For McConnell and Jaros it means the leadership group which approved their season-long loans will soon be long gone.
Arne Slot will not be happy with Ajax
Where that leaves their futures is anyone’s guess. Neither are currently first choice and represent signings from the old regime.
We could see Liverpool recall the pair in January and send them elsewhere on loan because right not the prospects don’t look good.
The most important aspect is game time - none of which is promised to the midfielder and goalkeeper anytime soon.
Arne Slot and Richard Hughes cannot be happy about the current crisis at Ajax - given the knock-on effect it’s having on two young stars.
Hopefully some stability can be prioritised in the coming weeks and they get back into the first-team picture or else the Reds will surely be recalling them.
