Two NEW clubs come forward in deal for Harvey Elliott
Liverpool completed a loan deal for Harvey Elliott last summer.
The 22-year-old playmaker joined Aston Villa for the 2025/26 season - with a view to a permanent transfer in summer 2026. Villa would be obligated to pay £35m if the England under-21 international reached 10 appearances.
But there is little to no chance of that happening - with Unai Emery admitting the decision had been taken a long time ago.
Elliott is stuck on five appearances and although there is no break clause in the loan deal it looks like he could be returning to Liverpool this January.
Elliott options are restricted
What happens next for the midfielder is uncertain. Given his contract runs out in 2027 - and Liverpool waved him goodbye last summer thinking he would complete a permanent move - it appears Elliott is not in Arne Slot’s plans.
Complicating the picture however is the fact that he’s played for TWO clubs already this season - Aston Villa and Liverpool. Elliott is therefore unable to represent a third club in this campaign - meaning his next move is severely restricted.
If Elliott wanted a move elsewhere he would have to join a club whose season overlaps - such as MLS or the Brasileiro.
And it appears that the American league is under consideration by Elliott at last - with Sports Boom reporting that three clubs are now in the running for the two-time Premier League winner.
Chicago Fire and NYCFC want Elliott
Elliott was already a target for Dean Smith’s Charlotte FC - and now two more clubs have come forward with their interest.
“Both Chicago Fire and New York City have both reached out to the player’s representatives about potentially doing a deal for Elliott to play in America next season,” the report reads.
“Elliott knows he needs to play games to stand any chance of getting his derailed career back on track, and a move to the US is now firmly on the cards.”
The new MLS season begins in February - giving Elliott some vital first-team minutes before coming back to Liverpool next summer.
With the club asking for £35m when Elliott had two years on his deal it appears they will have to make a compromise on the fee in summer 2026 - unless they can somehow convince Elliott to extend his contract.
