However, Trent decided to run down his contract and in the summer of 2025 swapped his hometown club for Real Madrid.

Trent already under pressure

It came as a slap in the face for many Liverpool supporters - who could only look on helplessly as Trent walked out on the Premier League title winners.

Real had to pay around Ā£8.4m for Trent to play in the FIFA Club World Cup and he’s got his career there off to an indifferent start.

Injury trouble marred his CWC campaign and he is ALREADY under significant pressure for his right-back starting berth.

Carvajal is roaring back

The England international was signed as an alternative to Dani Carvajal - a Real Madrid legend coming off the back of a cruel ACL injury blow.

But now the 33-year-old is back fully fit - replacing Trent for the final third of Madrid’s opening LaLiga fixture of the season on Tuesday night.

Trent endured another difficult night in the game against Osasuna; the worst-performing Real Madrid starter statistically according to Sofascore.

He managed only 77 touches and gave the ball away 15 times before being hooked.

'Trent, get ready for the bench'

Carvajal is not about to surrender his spot easily and now former La Liga player Javi Casquero has WARNED Trent that he better be prepared for life on the Real Madrid bench.

ā€œIf Carvajal returns to his full form, Trent should start preparing for the Real Madrid bench,ā€ he said according to Football Espana.

Liverpool have moved on from Trent - offering a new contract to Conor Bradley and also signing Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen.

There is no way back now - even if Trent wanted it. He swapped Anfield for the snakepit of Real Madrid and he could be about to learn what a catastrophic error that may have been.
