He's READY: 20-year-old prodigy wanted by Liverpool

Liverpool know their centre-back outlook is not the most pleasant right now.

The club are down to three senior options in the position with Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez.

And Arne Slot will no doubt be concerned by the reports that Ibrahima Konate has returned to the club from international duty with France owing to a thigh injury.

Failing to land Marc Guehi on transfer deadline day - not to mention the loss of Giovanni Leoni due to a serious ACL injury - could well have a devastating consequence for the Premier League title holders.

Liverpool step up centre-back search

That’s perhaps why the links with potential centre-back signings have been coming thick and fast over the last few weeks.

Senior options associated with an Anfield move include Jan Paul van Hecke, Ronald Araujo and Willian Pacho. But there also remains the possibility that Liverpool opt for a project signing in the form of a promising young defender.

And according to the latest report in TBR Football their search for a new central defender has taken them to Dynamo Kyiv.

Mykhavko on Liverpool's shortlist

Taras Mykhavko, 20, has established himself for the Ukrainian giants over the last year or so - leading his side to the Premier League title in 2024/25.

The centre-back was also named Ukraine’s young player of the year - and it now looks a matter of time before he follows compatriot Illia Zabarnyi to the big leagues.

Liverpool - along with Chelsea, Manchester United, Newcastle, Brentford and Brighton have been checking on the stopper’s progress and there is reportedly Bundesliga interest from RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen.

Long-term Van Dijk successor?

Mykhavko is under contract with Dynamo Kyiv until 2028 but looks set to move long before then. He originally joined the Ukrainian capital side from Lviv in 2023 - and has gone from strength to strength since getting his chance.

This season he has featured against Crystal Palace in the UEFA Europa Conference League and has appeared for the Ukraine under-21s.

Liverpool’s need for a centre-back is well-documented and it’s only a matter of time before they will require a long-term successor to Van Dijk.

Maybe Mykhavko could be the man for the job.
