Richard Hughes plans RADICAL Liverpool midfield overhaul
Liverpool are currently going through a crisis of confidence, struggling to deliver results.
Performance levels have been a problem for the entire season so far, but at one point, the Reds were on a seven consecutive win-streak - often relying on late goals. Now, we've lost six of our last seven.
To say that our form has been a midfield issue feels harsh. The level of control that Arne Slot's engine room normally has isn't there anymore. That much is accurate. But it's the defensive woes followed by the lack of cohesion amongst the eye-wateringly expensive forwards that is critical.
Nonetheless, we were given an insight into where Liverpool are heading from Fabrizio Romano, who reported earlier this week that Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai are next up for new deals.
And once that information is combined with a fresh report about the Reds' transfer intentions, a vivid picture is painted, suggesting that some particularly radical changes could be on the horizon in 2026.
Two new midfield stars on the way
According to intel from Indykaila on X, two 'elite' midfield stars are being targeted by Liverpool.
Beyond 21-year-old Adam Wharton at Crystal Palace, who is said to want to join the Reds, no one else has been listed as a possible recruit for the engine room, which leaves lots of room to speculate.
In knowing that Alexis Mac Allister is one of the only players - like Szoboszlai and Gravenberch - that are set to be out of contract in 2028, who hasn't been listed as someone who Liverpool will attempt to sit down with, it's clear that the Argentinian might be on the way out sooner rather than later.
Beyond that bit of sleuthing, however, it's unclear whether someone else will need to leave for another new recruit to join Slot's squad. But the number of possible transfers is truly endless.
Elliot Anderson at Nottingham Forest has been a revelation so far this season, delivering standout performances for England to potentially nail down a spot in Thomas Tuchel's World Cup squad. He would be a sensational signing since he's still only 22 years old and is massively on the way up.
Another target could be Angello Stiller at Stuttgart, given how regularly Liverpool are linked to him.
Beyond those two, you'd fancy the Reds to strongly consider any of the Real Madrid stars who are looking for a new project, since each of them would definitely meet the 'elite' classification - Eduardo Camavinga, Federico Valverde and Aurélien Tchouaméni, just to name a few.
If the sources at Indykaila are accurate, then Liverpool will be set for a whirlwind next 12 months, although the budget to pull all of this off will not be endless, sacrifices might well need to be made.
