Richard Hughes can bypass Bournemouth in SENSATIONAL deal for Antoine Semenyo
Liverpool have an ace up their sleeve to secure on the Premier League's brightest talents.
Once you've proven yourself in the hardest league in Europe, teams come swarming with transfer offers and the money involved in such deals can be extraordinary. Exciting talents are a commodity.
Liverpool don't exactly need more x-factor in their side, but the club is always open to making bold statements with their recruitment to keep the squad level high. The budget for transfers is normally wisely spent and so players with high price tags can be approached if the move makes sense.
Before the season started, Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike were brought in as the new strikers. The wingers, however, might need to be upgraded at some point, especially now that Mohamed Salah is nearing the end of his career, and given the lack of an established back-up for Cody Gakpo.
As such, we could see movement next summer and Liverpool's sporting director Richard Hughes might have a way to bypass the competition for his ideal target. He's got the inside scoop on the deal.
Semenyo destined to be a Red?
According to a new report from Football Insider, one player that Liverpool are 'on the hunt' for is 25-year-old Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo. He's started the Premier League season on fire.
Inside the opening eight games of the campaign, he's scored six goals and secured three assists.
Manchester City and Arsenal are set to rival Liverpool for his signature, but there's one slight detail in his contract, agreed by former Cherries sporting director Richard Hughes, that could allow the Reds to overhaul the negotiations and ensure he goes to Merseyside next summer, rather than elsewhere.
He has a release clause. It's an unknown amount, but Bournemouth will not look to stand in his way.
Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, Pete O'Rourke said: "It doesn't change it massively, but clubs will be aware of the release clause that there is a certain figure that can be met to allow them to activate it and try [to] sign Antoine Semenyo rather than trying to negotiate something with Bournemouth.
"Bournemouth are keeping this release clause figure confidential, which they're well with their rights to do so. It would obviously make things easier, this release clause, but I don't think it'll change anything in that respect because I think it'll be a pretty open race for Antoine Semeonyo probably next summer."
Now of course, give Hughes has met Semenyo when he was at Bournemouth, instantly gives the Reds an advantage because there is likely to be a rapport there. We saw how useful Hughes' insight can be earlier this summer when Milos Kerkez also made the move from the south to the north west.
But the existence of a release clause changes everything for Liverpool, not least because Hughes was most likely involved in negotiating it, so he could well know what the amount is. The Cherries might want to keep it confidential, but this eventuality is unavoidable. The information is out there.
As such, the Reds could pounce on Semenyo when the time is right and the club will fancy its chances of being successful if an approach is made. It's understood that around £75m would be the high-end of Bournemouth's asking price, but the release clause could well be a cut-price deal.
