Liverpool reportedly wanted both Florian Wirtz and Rayan Cherki this summer. With the latter joining Manchester City, the best alternative is already in the Premier League.

Liverpool are doing something crazy this summer: they're going to break their transfer record. Ultimately, they may break the British record, too, which is something they haven't done since 1995.

Florian Wirtz is the one they're doing it for and it's a move we're firmly behind. Wirtz is one of the world's most talented players and someone who can move this Liverpool team up a level.

Ridiculously, though, the club appeared to have even grander plans than that. It was claimed in France that they wanted to sign Wirtz and Rayan Cherki, who left Lyon this summer.

Dual number 10s? Twin-playmakers? It's an ambitious idea and one that we can't help but feel excited about.

However, it's also not an idea that's dead. Cherki won't be arriving, obviously, after signing for Manchester City - but there is at least one other no.10 out there we'd be absolutely thrilled with.

Morgan Rogers is a dream signing

It was reported ahead of the summer that Liverpool are keeping tabs on Morgan Rogers. Aston Villa failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, opening the door for a major sale.

Fabrizio Romano was the one suggesting Liverpool like the player. Though, the Mail suggest Chelsea do, too.

In fact, Chelsea are apparently keeping tabs on Rogers right now. The suggestion is that Villa might be tempted to sell and if that's the case, we imagine Liverpool will get involved.

Rogers is essentially the ideal signing, after all. He can play in midfield, wide or as a no.10 and ticks the all-important homegrown box.

Liverpool must focus on the latter after losing Caoimhin Kelleher and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Other homegrown players may depart this summer, too, like Harvey Elliott.

And so Rogers, who scored eight Premier League goals last season and assisted another 10, is exactly what Liverpool are after. Though, this one relies heavily on Aston Villa.

If Chelsea are right and there's some sort of chance they sell, Liverpool must act. They didn't get Cherki but the Wirtz / Rogers combo is one you win titles with.
