Pep Guardiola plans to STEAL England international from Liverpool
Liverpool’s summer transfer campaign has left them looking a little short in the centre-back department.
Sporting director Richard Hughes opted to sell Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen for around £30m - leaving the Reds with only THREE senior options in the position.

Virgil van Dijk remains the defensive leader - and he is joined by Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez as Arne Slot’s main choices in the heart of the backline.

Liverpool also signed Giovanni Leoni from Parma over the summer for an initial £26m but at 18 it remains to be seen how much first-team football the Italian gets through.
Liverpool seeking deal for Guehi
Hence the club have been tipped to move for another experienced centre-back in his window in order to boost numbers.
Marc Guehi remains the top pick with the Crystal Palace captain out of contract in 2026. If Liverpool can reach an agreement with Palace over his fee then Guehi could well be signed before deadline day.
The 25-year-old England international has got the experience and quality to challenge Konate immediately for a first-team spot with the Frenchman also in a similar contract predicament.
But Liverpool now must pay attention to Manchester City.
Man City line up £35m Guehi deal
Pep Guardiola is in the process of restocking his backline and City could see Manuel Akanji as well as Nathan Ake LEAVE the club this week.
That would leave Guardiola short on centre-backs and now a report in the Daily Star suggests that Guehi is emerging as an option.
“The England defender, 25, is being discussed at The Etihad as a potential £35million target, if Pep Guardiola, who saw his team lose 2-0 at home to Spurs, loses Akanji and Ake from his squad,” the report reads.
Guardiola overhauling City squad
City have made an indifferent start to the season despite adding plenty of players in the summer transfer window.
Over £150m has been spent on the likes of Rayan Ait-Nouri, Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki, Sverre Nypan and James Trafford but it appears Guardiola still isn’t happy.
The defeat to Spurs exposed City’s limitations - and sets them up for another difficult campaign.
Let’s hope Guehi recognises that Liverpool is the place to be for the years ahead - and makes the right decision.
