Liverpool ready €90m offer for Spanish midfield POWERHOUSE
Liverpool made £450m worth of new signings over the summer but declined to upgrade their midfield.
It means the load remains high on the Reds’ Premier League title-winning midfield contingent. Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Curtis Jones and Wataru Endo worked wonders for Arne Slot’s side during the 2024/25 campaign.
And the strain is beginning to tell.
Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Jones and Endo have all suffered some injury troubles this season - while Szoboszlai has been used as a problem solver all over the pitch.
Liverpool eyeing up midfield reinforcements
It’s clear that Gravenberch and Mac Allister in particular haven’t been at their best this term - leading to speculation that a new midfield could arrive in either January or next summer.
One of the names reportedly on the list now is Pablo Barrios. The 22-year-old is an Atletico Madrid homegrown talent - signing his first professional deal with Diego Simeone’s side back in 2023.

The Spanish Olympic gold medallist is contracted to the capital side until 2030 and it would reportedly take a bid of €90m to €100m for Atletico to consider doing business.
Liverpool want deal for Pablo Barrios
That’s according to an item in Caught Offside - which claims Liverpool are ready to match Chelsea’s interest in the four-cap Spaniard.
Barrios is renowned as a typical, hard-working Atletico midfielder but is also an outstanding ball-carrier from deep and penetrative passer.
He is comfortable either side of the halfway line and could easily step into either Gravenberch or Mac Allister’s role.
Liverpool step up contract talks with Gravenberch and Szoboszlai
It remains to be seen what Richard Hughes has got planned for the midfield over the next few windows but it looks like change is inevitable.
The club are currently reported to be in contract talks with Gravenberch and Szoboszlai - but could do with extra numbers to beef up a sector that hasn’t been at its best this term.
