Liverpool get serious about signing £70m Brazil star
There is some disruption coming for Liverpool’s centre-back department in the summer.
Firstly, there is a situation brewing over Ibrahima Konate. The 26-year-old is out of contract in summer 2026 - and right now it would appear he will be leaving the club.
That removes one very experienced defender from Liverpool’s backline - and neither Giovanni Leoni nor Jeremy Jacquet are well-seasoned Premier League performers.
Then there’s the case of Joe Gomez. The England man, 28, is out of contract in 2027 - but could be let go if the right bid is made this summer.
Richard Hughes and Arne Slot would therefore be losing two seasoned campaigners - with Virgil van Dijk due to leave the club just a year later.
Liverpool and Chelsea compete for Murillo
That’s why signing a proven talent makes sense this off-season. And there is a chance that Liverpool could come back in for a £70m-rated talent with three seasons’ worth of top-flight experience behind him.
According to a new report on TEAMtalk Liverpool and Chelsea are among the most “serious” suitors for Nottingham Forest’s Murillo at the end of the season.
“A summer sale is ‘increasingly likely’ if offers of around £60m-£70m are tabled,” the report reads.
“The Reds view the former Corinthians talent as a potential upgrade, particularly given his ability to progress play from deep positions.”
Nottingham Forest value Murillo at £60m to £70m
Murillo, 23, joined Forest back in 2023 and is under contract until 2029. But the Brazil international looks set to move on at the end of the current campaign amid intense competition for his signature. His agents see summer 2026 as the right time for a step-up.
The report cites Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich as potentially interested in the left-footed defender.
So Liverpool will have a big job in front of them in order to convince Murillo to move to Anfield.
They were also linked with Murillo last year but opted to go another route in the signings of both Leoni and Jacquet - as well as several under-21 recruits.
