Liverpool will be waiving their right to a transfer fee and allowing Salah to pick his next destination - with MLS and the Saudi Pro League expected to figure in the 33-year-old’s thinking.

Finding an exact stylistic match for Salah is going to be difficult considering his prodigious goalscoring rate since joining in 2017.

And the Reds have already been frustrated in their attempts to land a big-name replacement.

Paris Saint-Germain have knocked back the Premier League champions’ interest in Bradley Barcola, Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia according to a report in TEAMtalk.

And the prospect of adding either Yan Diomande or Michael Olise is uncertain owing to their high price tags and long contracts at their respective clubs.

Liverpool jet out to watch Akliouche

Liverpool’s search for a Salah successor therefore has taken them to Monaco - per the report - where steps are being taken to sign Maghnes Akliouche.

The Monaco standout was watched in the stadium by Reds’ recruiters on Sunday night as his side overcame Marseille in Ligue 1.

And Liverpool scouts will have liked what they saw from the elegant left-footer who has been in terrific form over the course of 2026.

The 24-year-old even finds himself in the reckoning for a place in the France squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and his rise hasn’t been ignored in the Premier League.

Akliouche firmly enters Liverpool thinking

“Liverpool and Manchester United have stepped up their interest in Monaco starlet Maghnes Akliouche, with both clubs dispatching scouts to watch him in action as his team beat Marseille 2-1 on Sunday,” the report reads.

“His latest performance was closely monitored as two of the Premier League’s biggest clubs intensify plans to strengthen their forward lines ahead of the summer window.”

Akliouche is under contract at the Principality side until 2028 and a decision will soon have to come over his future. Without a new deal Monaco will surely be tempted to cash in - and Liverpool see the playmaker as a fitting successor to Salah.

“Akliouche has now firmly entered that thinking, with his versatility, creativity and upward trajectory making him an appealing alternative,” the report reads.
