Liverpool get fresh hope of signing Marc Guehi after deadline day miss
There is a certain amount of intrigue growing over the future of Marc Guehi.
In an ideal world, the England defender would be a Liverpool player already but that’s not how things worked out. The Reds agreed a deal to sign the Crystal Palace captain for an initial £35m - but the move fell apart late on deadline day.

Owing to an inability to land a replacement - and the apparent dissatisfaction of head coach Oliver Glasner - Palace pulled the plug.

It means Guehi slips into the final season of his contract - which is due to expire in 2026. Having seen the Liverpool deal fall through, there is a suggestion that other clubs may now get involved in the bidding.
Guehi sees his future at Liverpool
The Reds are at risk of seeing the likes of Real Madrid and Juventus steal a march on them by offering a big contract to Guehi or else trying to agree a deal to sign him with Palace in January.
But it looks like Liverpool will be sticking to their guns - according to a report in the Telegraph - having more or less been given an assurance that Guehi wants Liverpool above all else.
“Other clubs are believed to be ready to rival Liverpool for Guehi’s signature, but having been given permission to meet the player, conduct a medical and agree personal terms, the Premier League champions understand that Guehi sees his long-term future at Anfield,” the report reads.
Free transfer is COMING
Moreover the report claims that Liverpool have got NO plans to add a different centre-back right now and will be aiming all their resources at Guehi next summer.
“He will be Liverpool’s primary central defensive target in 2026, and they see the referencing of other clubs as a bluff to bring them back to the table on January 1,” the report reads.
“So far as Liverpool are concerned, it was £35m for Guehi in the summer or a free transfer next year.”
What can we expect in January?
Maybe a Madrid or a Chelsea will make a cheeky play to land Guehi by offering a decent fee to Palace.
But Guehi has more or less pledged his future to Liverpool by this stage - and unless things change drastically then we can be confident of landing him in summer 2026.
