Liverpool have currently got a first-team squad which is looking a little unbalanced. The Reds’ sporting director Richard Hughes has overseen a summer transfer campaign with signings totalling around £290m.

As part of the spending spree, we’ve seen Florian Wirtz arrive for a potential British record £116m while Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Giovanni Leoni and Giorgi Mamardashvili have also arrived.

Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez have left along with Jarell Quansah, Ben Doak, Caoimhin Kelleher, Tyler Morton, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Nat Phillips.

Liverpool have one left-back too many

However Liverpool could do with adding another forward before the window ends - ideally Alexander Isak or a versatile option - and need to offload a left-back too.

Kerkez cost £45m from Bournemouth and hasn’t come to play second fiddle to Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas. That’s why it’s been suggested that one of Liverpool’s two Premier League title winners will depart.

Robertson is out of contract in 2026 and valued for his leadership capabilities so it’s likely he will be kept around even if he is no longer first choice.

Tsimikas in demand

Tsimikas however looks more resigned to his fate. The Reds have little need for three senior left-back options and there have been abundant links between the 29-year-old and potentially interested clubs.

Nottingham Forest and Fulham among Premier League teams have been mentioned while overseas options are thought to include Marseille and Olympiacos.

Now it’s been claimed that Greece international Tsimikas favours an emotional return to his home country with Olympiacos.

Tsimikas prefers Greek move

That’s according to a report from Brazilian transfer journalist Pablo Oliveira - who claims Tsimikas has “expressed preference” for a move back home.

“There is a possible transfer scenario involving Konstantinos Tsimikas, who may leave Liverpool, with Olympiacos reportedly interested in bringing the 29-year-old Greek defender back to Greece,” he wrote on X.

“The player has expressed a preference for returning to his homeland.”

Tsimikas is under contract at Anfield until 2027, having joined from Olympiacos for around £12m back in 2020.

Midfield definitely needs strengthening, I see it as a good move.
