Liverpool last week sold Trent Kone-Doherty to Molde in Norway.

It was reported at the time that the Irish winger had been overtaken by both Rio Ngumoha and Joshua Abe. But it has since emerged that Liverpool were keen to keep him.

The 19-year-old had the offer of a new contract - but opted for a move in order to gain first-team experience elsewhere.

Having invested in TKD since his arrival from Derry in 2022 the Premier League champions will be gutted to have lost him for practically nothing - €750k.

And now comes the news that another promising forward - Keyrol Figueroa - looks set for a summer departure.

The United States under-20 striker has been on Liverpool’s books since his early teens - but is out of contract in summer 2026.

Having been linked with a move to Porto in January - as well as a new contract at Liverpool - the future of the Honduras-eligible No9 is very much up in the air.

And now a report from Concacaf Edgar suggests that PSV in the Eredivisie could be the striker’s next destination.

“USYNT players, Keyrol Figueroa & Peyton Miller are two of the names that PSV are looking at for a possible move in the summer transfer window,” the report reads.

“PSV is expecting departures this summer of some key players, one of them being Ricardo Pepi.”

Keyrol Figueroa: Situation summary

Keyrol Figueroa is one of the more highly‑rated forwards in Liverpool’s academy, currently playing mainly for the U21s and scoring regularly at that level, but he is entering a pivotal contract phase with strong outside interest in his services.

His existing deal runs to 2026, and Liverpool have been in talks over an extension because they see clear potential value, either as a future squad option or as a player who can generate a meaningful fee down the line.

In football terms he is viewed internally as a penalty‑box No 9 with good movement and instinctive finishing, but still physically and tactically short of Premier League level, which is why the next step is expected to be a first senior loan once his contract situation is resolved.

Porto and other clubs have explored both loan and permanent deals – including talk of a loan with a purchase option – but Liverpool’s preference, as briefed locally, is to tie him down.

The medium‑term fork is therefore clear: if a new contract is agreed, a loan into senior football in 2026–27 becomes the likely route, with his long‑term future reassessed after that spell; if no agreement is found, Liverpool risk him running down his deal to free agency in 2026.

Analysis

Figueroa has scored 11 goals in 14 PL2 games this term - and was called up to bulk out the senior squad for an EFL Cup game against Crystal Palace.

But his chances of a breakthrough look remote - particularly with Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike ahead of him in the pecking order.

Futbol Centro America claims a contract offer is on the table from the Reds - with Figueroa recently having changed agents to be represented by Federico Pastorello’s P&P Sport Management agency.

Use young talents or lose them

“Figueroa has received interest from several clubs and a departure from Liverpool is not out of the question, who would also put a renewal offer on the table,” the report reads.

Having lost TKD it would be another devastating blow to lose Figueroa - who has been in the Liverpool system since 2018. But Arne Slot are learning a crucial lesson along the way regarding young talents - use them or lose them.
