Liverpool star's fate DECIDED after £35m centre-back deal
Liverpool are facing significant centre-back disruption this summer. Having signed Virgil van Dijk to a new contract until 2027, the Reds have got a number of other issues to sort.
First of all there’s Ibrahima Konate and his expiring deal. Out of contract in 2026, Konate could be sold if Liverpool cannot tie him down to new terms.

Then there’s Jarell Quansah. The 22-year-old homegrown defender is closing in on a move to Bayer Leverkusen. It will add around £35m to the club’s coffers but will leave a significant gap in the squad.

That’s why the fate of Joe Gomez, another player tipped for the exit, now looks sealed.
Gomez in demand
Gomez, 28, is the current squad’s longest-serving player. However he has been suggested as a potential summer departure with a queue of Premier League clubs forming for his signature.
The England international is under contract until 2027 and now looks set to REMAIN on Merseyside for next season at least. That’s according to a new report in Football Insider - which states that Quansah leaving means Gomez will be staying put.
Gomez to STAY if Quansah goes
“It is believed the versatile 28-year-old still has a role to play under Arne Slot on Merseyside with Jarell Quansah set to move to Bayer Leverkusen,” a report reads.
“Quansah’s imminent exit will leave only Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Gomez as the three senior centre-backs for Slot to call on.”
Gomez is celebrating 10 years at the club this summer and provides cover in several positions as well as leadership qualities.
Sunderland and Leeds want Gomez
According to the report both Leeds and Sunderland had identified Gomez as a potential upgrade for the centre of their defence having gained promotion to the Premier League.
But Gomez now looks like he has a future at Liverpool considering the amount of uncertainty around other players. There remains issues to solve around Quansah, imminently, and Konate.
