'Best in the world' £60m signing is COMING to Liverpool
Liverpool are all set to welcome Jeremy Jacquet on a £55m + £5m deal from Rennes.
The 20-year-old French defender has been the subject of intense transfer scrutiny all the way back to last summer. Plenty of the Premier League’s leading lights have had a look at the France under-21 international - with Liverpool now coming out on top.
Chelsea at one stage were thought to be leading the race for the promising centre-back but it looks like he had eyes for Liverpool only.
Manchester United too tried to snatch Jacquet away from the Premier League champions at the last minute but he was having none of it.
Liverpool recruit £60m Jeremy Jacquet
Jacquet therefore becomes Liverpool’s latest young centre-back recruit - following the signings of Giovanni Leoni, Noah Adekoya and Mor Talla Ndiaye. Another - Austrian Ifeanyi Ndukwe - will come in summer after he turns 18.
That’s when Jacquet is expected to join the Reds - with the overall £60m package set to go through at the end of the season.
Jacquet will spend the rest of the campaign in Ligue 1 - hopefully preparing the way for a successful spell at Anfield in the years to come.
And if supporters were in any doubt about what kind of player they’ve signed - renowned French football expert Julien Laurens has now given his endorsement of Paris-born Jacquet.
Top French voice endorses Jeremy Jacquet
The pre-eminent voice on all things French football Laurens has stated that Jacquet is equipped with all the tools to become one of the best defenders in the game.
“I can’t stress enough what a superb signing Jeremy Jacquet will be for Liverpool!” he wrote on X.
“He is a special talent and has everything to become one of the best defenders in the world.
“And he is Paris born and bred too which makes him even more special!”
All change in Liverpool's centre-back department
Liverpool’s centre-back sector will likely look unrecognisable this time next year. Ibrahima Konate could well have left the club on a free transfer while Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez will be approaching the end of their deals too.
It will be left to the likes of Jacquet and Leoni to usher the Anfield side into a new era - with Richard Hughes getting in ahead of the competition for the best up-and-coming talents in the game.
