Opportunities to sign and sell players are still available with five weeks left of the summer transfer window and Liverpool have a number of different options still consider when it comes to their squad.
One of which is for a midfield talent and we are hearing that he is closing in on a move.
West Brom pick up interest in McConnell
In this instance, we are talking about a potential outgoing move for James McConnell rather than another incoming transfer, as Liverpool's midfield is already stacked for the upcoming campaign.
But the 20-year-old has impressed Arne Slot over the last year and the decision has been made that he will not be sold. Instead, a loan move is being considered in order to further his development.

According to Express and Star, it is West Brom who have expressed the most interest in the Englishman and after being linked with the Baggies, a move is now expected to happen this week.
Of course, it is also mentioned that 'a handful of other Championship clubs are set to rival Albion for the highly-rated youngster' but it's clear that one way or another, a loan move will happen for him.
If we do end up seeing McConnell temporarily move to West Brom, he will be joining Nathaniel Phillips there, after the 28-year-old joined on a permanent move from Liverpool earlier this summer.
Of course, it made sense for Phillips to be given an opportunity to play elsewhere after six years of serving the club, whereas McConnell is considered a prized asset for the club right now.
He is registered as a midfielder, but we saw him feature at right-back at times last season and his versatility is going to hold him in good stead to break into the first-team when a gap opens up.

As such, all parties are likely to benefit from such a deal and it will be fascinating to see how he gets on at West Brom in this upcoming season, if a move is agreed, before he returns to Liverpool in 2026.
