Fabrizio Romano has given a 'here we go' and now there will finally be movement on a Liverpool target. Things could move very quickly.

Liverpool need a new centre-back. Jarell Quansah left the club this summer with no replacement.

In fact, there's no real replacement in the entire squad. Liverpool had four senior centre-backs and now they're down to three.

Even worse, Quansah was a homegrown player and Liverpool have lost a fair few of those this summer. Quansah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Caoimhin Kelleher and Tyler Morton have all left, creating a bit of a problem.

One option to fix that is to sign a homegrown player, of course. Another is to sign a youngster who could become a homegrown player and Liverpool may have found one in Geovani Leoni.

Leoni is an 18-year-old defender from Italy, currently starring for Parma. There's plenty of interest in him, too, with Liverpool one of a few clubs seriously scouting him.

Now, though, there might be genuine movement for Leoni - and Liverpool must act.

The Giovanni Leoni saga

Corriere Dello Sport is the latest to link Liverpool to Leoni. However, they also link AC Milan and Inter.

The Milanese clubs are very interested in one of Italy's hottest prospects. On top of that, Milan are apparently more inclined to sign him if Malick Thiaw departs the club.

Well, that is now happening. Fabrizio Romano is one of many saying a deal has now been agreed and Thiaw will leave to join Newcastle United for around €40m.

That now opens the door for them to sign a new centre-back and it sounds as though Leoni is at the top of their shortlist. Which naturally creates a problem for Liverpool.

We get the impression that Liverpool will only move for Leoni if they can't sign Marc Guehi this summer. But that means they can't really move for the Italian until they're certain on it.

Milan may snap him up in that time - so a decision needs to happen. Leoni looks like one of the best prospects at centre-back in football right now, competing in a top league at just 18.

The timing is an issue, however, so if Liverpool want him, they've got to make up their minds. Quickly.

LFC must make sure of signing Guehi and I believe we will be contending for everything. 👌🏾
