Liverpool made several alterations to the squad last summer.

Richard Hughes bid farewell to plenty of title-winning stars - including Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, Caoimhin Kelleher and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Deals were concluded for replacements and upgrades - including Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong.

Unfortunately for the Reds they got worse - not better - and slumped to a fifth-place Premier League finish. Those failures cost Arne Slot his job as he was simply unable to get the best out of his new signings on a regular basis.

Mamardashvili being shopped around

And now it’s been claimed that one of those new faces is being offered around just ONE year after his arrival.

Giorgi Mamardashvili was actually signed in 2024 but was sent back on loan to Valencia following his £24m deal. The Georgian No1 then returned to Anfield in order to compete with Alisson Becker for the starting shirt on Merseyside.

He was given plenty of chance to impress owing to Alisson’s patchy injury record - but in truth the 25-year-old never looked altogether convincing.

Mamardashvili just hasn't been convincing

He moved for a first-team place but that isn’t likely to happen next season either with Alisson putting pen to paper on a fresh contract extension to 2027.

It leaves Mamardashvili unsure of his place in the squad under new head coach Andoni Iraola - with it now being suggested that the shot-stopper is being offered around.

Giorgi Mamardashvili has been offered by his representatives to several Serie A clubs for a potential season-long loan,” a report reads in the Liverpool Echo.

Richard Hughes' decision brought into question

Under contract until 2031 Mamardashvili will still have chances to stake his claim for a place in the team even after a loan move. But recent reports also suggest that Vitezslav Jaros could come into contention as Liverpool’s next first-choice once his injury clears up.

Therefore the wisdom of signing Mamardashvili must certainly be brought into question. Alisson remains one of the best in the world and doesn’t appear to be going anywhere this summer.

Meanwhile Mamardashvili is struggling and the latest indications are that his camp don’t believe this deal is working out either. Why else would they be looking for an exit route already?
