Liverpool step up pursuit for £65m Germany international

It looks like Liverpool will take steps to overhaul their left-back department in the summer transfer window.

Although they added Milos Kerkez on a £40m deal from Bournemouth last summer sporting director Richard Hughes isn’t done remodelling.

While Kerkez is expected to be the long-term left-back incumbent it would be prudent to add cover and competition for the Hungarian.

Andy Robertson, turning 32 next week, is out of contract in summer 2026 and right now it doesn’t appear the £160k per week defender will be offered a new deal.

Kostas Tsimikas - who is currently on loan at Roma - is under contract until 2027 but it would be no surprise to see the club take bids for the Greek in the off-season.

Accordingly the position will need to be rebuilt - with the club now stepping up their hunt for Eintracht Frankfurt’s Nathaniel Brown.

That’s according to a new report in TEAMtalk - which claims the Premier League champions will be fighting Arsenal for the 22-year-old German.

“Liverpool are growing more and more keen on Eintracht Frankfurt star Nathaniel Brown,” the report reads.

“[Liverpool are] primed to battle Arsenal and others for the £65million-rated full-back.”

“The 22-year-old German international is high on Liverpool’s list and has been watched multiple times by their scouts.”

Nathaniel Brown: Situation summary

Nathaniel Brown is a 22-year-old German‑American left‑back who plays for Eintracht Frankfurt and recently broke into the Germany senior squad.

Born in Amberg to an American father and German mother, he came through TSV Kümmersbruck and Jahn Regensburg before joining Nürnberg’s academy in 2016 and working his way up via their U17s, U19s and second team.

Brown established himself as a starter in the 2. Bundesliga with Nürnberg, earning a long‑term contract and attracting interest for his athleticism and attacking output from left‑back.

Frankfurt signed him in January 2024 on a deal to 2029 and initially loaned him back, before integrating him as first‑choice left‑back in 2024‑25.

In 2025‑26 he has become a regular for Frankfurt in the Bundesliga and Champions League, offering up‑and‑down energy, aggressive pressing and progressive carrying from the left.

League stats show him making over 20 appearances with multiple goals and assists, strong defensive numbers in tackles and recoveries, and top speeds above 35 km/h.

That form led to a first Germany call‑up in October 2025 and a senior debut against Luxembourg, with Brown now viewed as one of the leading younger options at left‑back in the Bundesliga.

Analysis

This would be a steep price to pay for a left-back who may not even end up as first choice in the position.

But Brown has also got the capability of stepping up further forward and playing as a left-sided midfielder and left-winger.

He could therefore provide cover and competition in a range of positions - even if Arne Slot was persuaded to change his formation.

This season he’s got three goals and six assists across his appearances in the Bundesliga and Champions League.
