New forward signing opens door to Cody Gakpo sale

Liverpool have been tipped to undergo an attacking overhaul next summer - with several star names seemingly under consideration.

We could see Richard Hughes approach the likes of Mateus Mane and Yan Diomande for example - or even pursue a record-breaking move for Anthony Gordon.

What that means for current wings options remains to be seen.

Mohamed Salah and Federico Chiesa on the right wing have both been tipped for the exit in summer 2026. Salah has been lined up for a bumper move to the Saudi Pro League with Al-Ittihad and Al-Qadsiah said to be interested.

And Chiesa is a wanted man in Serie A - with Roma, AC Milan and Napoli determined to bring the wide man back to the Italian top flight.

Gakpo to leave if new winger arrives?

There could be a change on the other side of the attack too - with Cody Gakpo coming under increased scrutiny for the level of his performances.

A favourite of Arne Slot the 26-year-old signed a new contract last summer - reported to be worth £250k per week. Signed up until 2030 - the Dutchman would no doubt command a sizeable fee in the transfer market should he leave.

Bayern Munich are reported to have a long-standing interest in signing the former PSV captain - and a report in Football Insider might just have opened a door to a Gakpo sale.

Liverpool like Diomande and Gordon

With interest forming in the likes of Diomande and Gordon - who both favour the left side - Gakpo could well be edged out if a new signing in the position is made.

“If Liverpool were to bring in another left-sided attacker in the summer then maybe that potentially could open the door for a move away for Cody Gakpo,” the report reads.

“But he’s under contract until 2030…by all accounts, he remains happy at the club even though he does come in for a bit of flak from some Liverpool fans for his performances.

“He’s clearly still seen as a key man by Arne Slot, because he keeps picking him.”

Gakpo has made 21 starts in the Premier League this season - scoring five goals - but there is a sense that an upgrade could be made on his wing. Rio Ngumoha is currently Gakpo’s only competition with Arne Slot reluctant to overuse the 17-year-old.
