Liverpool forward to LEAVE in £26m deal
Liverpool spent £450m last summer on new players as Arne Slot and Richard Hughes set about retaining the Premier League title.
Among the new arrivals were Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak - coming in on British-record deals. Also added was Hugo Ekitike up front - as the head coach and sporting director overhauled the frontline.
Several players in attack had to make way to accommodate the new faces - including Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Ben Gannon-Doak.
That helped the club towards a figure approaching £200m in sales - but there are signs that another clearout may be on the horizon.
Chiesa wanted by Juve, Roma and Napoli
New faces are coming next summer - with Jeremy Jacquet already secured and a winger set to be announced too. And in order to make space for those arrivals more current Liverpool stars are going to be leaving.
We could see the likes of Ibrahima Konate, Andy Robertson, Curtis Jones and Mohamed Salah among the departures as Hughes and Slot plot improvements across the squad.
And one player who looks like FINALLY leaving after multiple windows worth of speculation is Federico Chiesa.
The Italian, 28, arrived on an initial £10m deal from Juventus back in September 2024. Despite winning the Premier League title the winger has endured a difficult spell on Merseyside - never looking like he was going to decisively win over Slot.
Juventus were heavily linked with a move for their former player in January but that deal ran aground as the Reds were seeking a permanent move rather than a loan.
Now the club’s demands have been set out in a new report from Caught Offside - which claims that Juventus, Napoli and Roma are set to contest the signature of the Italy international.
Liverpool want up to £26m for Chiesa
Liverpool’s price range for a summer deal for Chiesa has now reached between £21 and £26m according to the report.
“The Liverpool board is “open to letting him go”, with doubts about his ability to adapt to the Premier League pace, while Serie A sides are already moving in for Chiesa,” the report reads.
That is a mammoth sum for a fringe player - and it could represent a clear £16m profit on Chiesa. The Premier League champions are relatively well protected from a transfer fee perspective with the versatile forward contracted until 2028.
But Hughes needs to be careful that he doesn’t price the £150k per week forward out of a move completely. Chiesa has made just THREE Premier League starts under Slot since arriving at the club at the start of last season.
It is unlikely that his track record at Anfield is going to attract bids quite that high and so the LFC executive might need to come to a compromise.
